Announcement of Miriam Weiner Agreement with JewishGen Belarus SIG #general

Nancy Holden

The JewishGen Belarus SIG is very pleased to announce a historic partnership
with Miriam Weiner and The Routes to Roots Foundation. As a result of this
agreement we have received a large amount of material collected by Miriam
during her 20+ years of working in the archives of Belarus.

The material includes numerous archive inventories and copies of archive
documents (with summary translations for much of the material) including
thousands of personal names >from over 50 towns in Belarus as well as links
to/or excerpts >from Miriam's award-winning website.

You can read more about Miriam and the agreement at:

http://www.jewishgen.org/Belarus/misc/MiriamWeiner/index.html

It will take us several months to review and index these materials but we
hope to have the names appearing in at least a few towns indexed and
searchable in time for the IAJGS conference in Seattle in August.

IGRA_Meeting_on_June_28_in_Ra'anana - Israel Landsmanshaftn Records Resource for Genealogy Research #ukraine

Elena Bazes

Tuesday, June 28th in Ra'anana, Israel

Join us for the next meeting of the Israel Genealogy Research
Association (IGRA).

Avrohom Krauss will be speaking on Landsmanshaftn Records-a Resource
for Genealogy Research. Landsmanshaftn (hometown societies) or
immigrant social organizations existed >from the late nineteenth
century to mid-twentieth century and were located in places where Jews
settled, such as the US, UK, South Africa, Australia, South Africa and
Israel. The organizations were formed by ex-residents of the same
locality, such as towns in Poland, Russia, Hungary, Romania, Germany,
Lithuania and Ukraine.

These organizations generated important, often underutilized records.
This session will explore landsmanshaftn records and demonstrate how a
genealogist can put them to good use. Even if your relative did not
belong to a landsmanshaftn group or did not live in a place that had
such as group, research may turn up previously unknown relatives from
the same town.

Avrohom Krauss, educator/rabbi/cantor, is a genealogist who
specializes in uniquely Jewish resources. His articles on
landsmanshaft records, Jewish social services, immigration research
and date discrepancies have been published in "Avotaynu". Krauss has
given presentations at IGRA in Jerusalem and at IAJGS conferences in
Los Angeles, Paris, Boston, Salt Lake City and Jerusalem. He is
scheduled to speak at this year's conference in Seattle.

Location: Bet Fisher, 5 Klausner Street, Ra'anana

Doors open at 19:00 Meeting begins at 19:30.

Cost: IGRA members-Free Admission Non-members-NIS 20

To join IGRA, go to http://genealogy.org.il/membership/

Dear GerSIG,

I am searching for informations about Simon ROSENBERG. He was born in
Warstein 25.10.1855 as a son >from Moses ROSENBERG and Wilhelmine

I only know that a person with this birthdate died in Apeldoorn

born in Warstein. Exist a page with a picture of his grave. Why did he

News Release: Announcement of Miriam Weiner Agreement with JewishGen Belarus SIG #belarus

Nancy Holden

The JewishGen Belarus SIG is very pleased to announce a historic a partnership
with Miriam Weiner and The Routes to Roots Foundation. As a result of this
agreement we have received a large amount of material collected by Miriam during
her 20+ years of working in the archives of Belarus.

It will take us several months to review and index these materials but we hope to
have the names appearing in at least a few towns indexed and searchable in time
for the IAJGS conference in Seattle in August.

The JewishGen Belarus SIG is very pleased to announce a historic a partnership
with Miriam Weiner and The Routes to Roots Foundation. As a result of this
agreement we have received a large amount of material collected by Miriam during
her 20+ years of working in the archives of Belarus.

It will take us several months to review and index these materials but we hope to
have the names appearing in at least a few towns indexed and searchable in time
for the IAJGS conference in Seattle in August.

IGRA Meeting on June 28 in Ra'anana, Israel Landsmanshaftn Records Resource for Genealogy Research #unitedkingdom

His articles on
landsmanshaft records, Jewish social services, immigration research
and date discrepancies have been published in Avotaynu. Krauss has
given presentations at IGRA in Jerusalem and at IAJGS conferences in
Los Angeles, Paris, Boston, Salt Lake City and Jerusalem. He is
scheduled to speak at this year's conference in Seattle.

Location: Bet Fisher, 5 Klausner Street, Ra'anana

Doors open at 19:00 Meeting begins at 19:30.

Cost: IGRA members-Free Admission Non-members-NIS 20
