IKG database #austria-czech

Isn't it great how much information we've been able to learn >from the
new database? The staff at IKG have done a valuable service to us
all. And combined with the file numeratives in GenTeam it's a
relatively easy tool to use.

But has anyone else been finding that very many of the records listed
in GenTeam aren't to be found in the IKG/FHC database? In my case
I've looked up 68 of the GenTeam records but could only find 44 of
them in the source record books, so a "miss" rate of 35%. Are there
more books still in the process of being digitized by IKG or yet to be
put online by the Family History Center?

The marriage book (1784-1842) >from Kardasova Recice has at the front
what looks like the entire 1784 edict >from Joseph II (5 handwritten
pages) regarding the requirement to keep Jewish records. Worth a look
for all you history buffs on the SIG list.

Thank you for the Four Word Yiddish Translation #yiddish

Dear All,

I've received the answer and now know what the role my grandmother played
in the play.

The general consensus is that the Yiddish "Baleboste fun a tey-shtibl"
translates to h THE OWNER OF THE TEA-HOUSE or TEA ROOM in English.

Several Genners added some additional translation ideas and nuances to the
phrase.

Thank you all so much for your much appreciated help! I've tried to thank
each of you individually and hope I didn't miss anyone.

LINDENBAUM in Pesie #belarus

alexa.sheridan@...

I am looking for birthplace information for my great-
great-grandfather, JOSEPH LINDENBAUM, born 1877. While I have not been
able to find conclusive information about his arrival at Ellis Island
in 1899-1900, I was able to find arrival information for his wife,
ESTHER LINDENBAUM, and son, ABRAHAM LINDENBAUM.

Ester and Abraham arrived at Ellis Island >from Antwerp on the S.S.
Vaderland on June 23, 1903. Their last residence is listed as "PESIE,"
but I cannot find anything matching Pesie on JewishGen or other online
shtetl searches. This birthplace is also listed on their graves, so I
don't believe it is a mistranslation.

By 1910, the Lindenbaums were living in Brooklyn, with two more
children: JENNIE LINDENBAUM and ISIDORE LINDENBAUM. While he was a
tailor prior to coming to America, for some reason Joseph was not able
to get work as a tailor in New York, and spent the remainder of his
professional life as a street sweeper. Joseph died in 1943, Esther in
1950, and both are buried at the Mount Hebron Cemetery in Queens.

Any information about Pesie or knowledge of Joseph's arrival in the US
would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Alexa Lindenbaum

Although also my great-great-grandfather adopted the family name BLUM, I
could not find any family relationship with Leon. Actually, as far as I
could find out, all relatives on both my father's and mother's side lived
for centuries in Haut Rhin. I think that the biography of Leon Blum by Ilan
