Cemeteries in Sosnowiec Poland #general

Ann Linder

Of the 3 cemeteries in Sosnowiec Poland
(1) Pastewna street (2) Gospodarcza street (3) Piaskowa Street---I'm trying to
determine which of the 3 might have the graves of my family. My mother recalls
that the cemetery was/is on the same street as the Jewish Hospital and near or on
the same street as a soccer field. This would be in aprox 1940. Note also that
she recalls that the cemetery is past a bridge but is not in Modrezow. I searched
jewishgen & googled for an address but was not successful. I located a photo of
the Jewish Hospital but it does Not have the street name, and info on jewishgen
about the hospital also does not indicate a street name. If anyone is familiar
with Sosnowiec & can help on this, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Unser Wien "Our Vienna"- reference book #general

Deborah HOLMAN

This may be a long-shot, but why not ask, right? I am interested in locating a copy
of the book "Unser Wien" co-authored by Stephan Templ and Tina Walzer. >from what I
have read, the book includes listings of Viennese businesses that were aryanized in
1938-39. I am attempting to learn more about my mother's family's business "LITAL"
which was owned by my g-grandfather Sigmund LICHTENTHAL. I don't need to own the
book, just would like to know what information may be contained. Amazon.com prices
it at $100+ - way more than I can spend! There does not seem to be any available
through my state interlibrary loan program.

DNA testing and a particular town #dna

mkaplan27

What information can I hope to acquire if a significant number of, let's say
men, all >from a particular town, were to have their DNA tested?

The forbearers of these men, all of whom came to this country in the last
hundred years, lived in a small town whose population never exceeded a few
thousand.

Just wanted to let those of you who follow Dunilovichi know that the 1834
Revision list has been translated and is now out on the Shtetlink site. It
has 63 surnames with about 50 when you combine different spellings. If you
are fortunate yours may be among them.

J1 Migration to Eastern Europe #dna

Ittai Hershman

Apropos of recent press and the introduction of autosomal DNA testing, I'm
wondering if we're any closer to understanding when the migrations of Y-DNA
J1 >from the Levant to Eastern Europe occurred?

For 3 of my 4 direct lines, I know the Y-Chromosome haplogroups are each J1
(M267) with one matching the "Cohen Modal Haplotype". Given the attention
to the latter, I'm wondering whether this migration puzzle has been solved
yet.

finding family with no obituary #general

Sara Lynns

I recently learned about a cousin, who died mid April. there was no obit. I did learn
where she was buried and the officiating Rabbi. I attempted to contact both the
cemetery and the officiating Rabbi to get an address for the family to send a card
and/or make a donation. I've not met these cousins yet. Any suggestions?
