EIDES/ADES family #southafrica

James R. Platt <jamesrplatt@...>

I am looking for any members of the EIDES/ADES family that may have
settled in South Africa >from Lithuania. Most of my relatives settled
in Maryland, Washington, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia, but
there is anecdotal information about others who may have settled in
South Africa. There are also EIDES who were buried in Chevra Kadisha
(Barney, Harry, Jane and Noah), who I am also hoping to learn more
about.

Thank you.

Re: DEKTOR family #southafrica

Stan Hart <stanhart@...>

In Pinelands 1 cemetery in Cape Town there is a Miriam DECKTOR, who died on
14 Sept 1954.
In Pinelands 2 cemetery there are the following:
David DEKTOR, died 4 August 1987 at the age of 86.
Rivka DECKTOR, died 20 May 1996, at the age of 83.
It seems that these two graves are next to one another, but unfortunately at
the moment I do not have photos of either.

There are 2 that I know of. One written by Zvi Menshel,
"Chust and Vicinity" which is available both in Hebrew and
English. The second is in Hebrew by Avraham Fuchs.

What names are you researching >from Chust? I have some family >from there.

Researching KLAJNBLAT family #general

Chaim freedman

I am seeking any Klajnblat family, which seems to be quite rare,
judging >from available records.

The specific family is that of Moshe Klajnblat, born about 1936, probably in
Poland. His father was Efraim, died in Beersheva. Moshe's mother was Bella
Prager who died of malnutrition in 1943 in a hospital, place unknown. Moshe
was then placed in an orphanage. Moshe's wife was Karina Sujkowski, daughter
of Franciszka, daughter of Abraham Richter, possibly of Danzig.

Viewmate 15889 #general

I have posted two photos to viewmate looking for help in identifying
the date or time frame of the photograph.

The first is of the Morgen/Morgen brothers and sisters at what I
believe is a wedding ceremony. Question is whether this took place in
Riga before 1890-1892 or Glasgow maybe 1892 to 1902.. I can try to
identify the siblings by the ages of their children but the key is
whether this was taken in Scotland or Russia.

The link is http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=15889
Any ideas?

Thanks to all

I have posted a photo taken of my great-grandmother's relatives either
named Klieger or Mescher. The family's path stretches >from Raduati to Iasi
to Bucharest. The photo itself has a stamp with the name of a photographer
in Bucharest.

I am interested in finding out the approximate date of this
photograph. My guess is in the 20's but any advice is appreciated.

Hinda Amchanitzky's Sidewalk Tombstone: NYT July 8 2010 #general

Judith27

Dear JewishGendom,
There's a very fascinating article in the Thursday, July 8, 2010
issue of The NY Times entitled "The Curious Mystery of the Sidewalk
Tombstone" about the 1910 matzeva of Hinda Amchanitzky found on a NYC sidewalk.
I came upon the story this morning as I read my way through the first section
of my home-delivered NY Times (it was on page A19), but you can of course
go online to

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/08/nyregion/08tombstone.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=sidewalk%20tombstone&st=cse

Enjoy!
