Hello, my Grandfather, Joseph Mortimer Bornstein emigrated around 1903
with his father, Icek Mendel (Max) BORNSZTAJN immigrated to Paterson,
New Jersey, >from Lodz with his wife, Hinda BRANDEIS, and their seven
children, between 1906 and 1910. Two more children were born in
Paterson, NJ. At least two of his children eventually settled in
Montreal, Canada.

I'd like to get some more information on what Max did in Lodz
and whether they came directly >from Poland or lived in Russia for a few
years.

Thanks

Hello,

I have gotten a partial translation of a 1903 marriage record and was
wondering if the document says anything else (I've listed the
translation I already have on Viewmate) or if anyone would be willing
to give me a more literal translation.

You can find it here:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM58059

(Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.)

Thanks in advance!

Lina

German SIG #Germany Thursday July 27 at IAJGS Conference in Orlando #germany

Jeanette R Rosenberg OBE

Dear GerSIG Members

Yesterday was a very busy and productive day for the GerSIG group here
in Orlando. I believe there are about 60-70 of us here. Over the next
few days I will be writing up all of our activities and making sure
that everyone can receive summaries of our presentations, whether they
were here with us or not.

There is no specific German-Jewish content programmed for today, but
as on most days, groups of GerSIG members will surely be found
gathered in small huddles around our laptops comparing notes and
family trees. Several of us have made new family connections!

This evening some of us will be at the conference banquet, where the
guest speaker is Henry Louis Gates

All good wishes >from Orlando, Jeanette

German SIG #Germany Fwd: regional Jewish records for Juelich (Julich & Umlaut) region 1780-1850? #germany

Reuven Mohr

dear list members,

Siblings of my gggrandmother seem to have moved >from Wittgenstein
(Berleburg) to the region of Juelich, West of the lower Rhine, around
1780-1800. No specific location is mentioned. I'm trying if I can find
any tracks of this branch.

For Westfalia the internet has the 'Amtsblatt der koenigl. preuss.
Regierung', which in special additions in 1846/47 published the name
adoption of Jews by location. This is not of much value to see earlier
names, but it shows the Jewish population at that time in the listed
locations.

Such a governmental publication would be interesting to see for
Juelich and neighboring communities, which at that time might have
been part of Regierungsbezirk Aachen. I cannot see the relevant years
for Aachen. Or maybe Juelich belonged to Koeln? Is anyone familiar
with name adoption under Prussian administration in this region, and
where it was published?

Since Juelich was part of France in the Napoleonic era (~1796-1815),
there should also be name adoption declarations according to French
law (1808/09). Are those accessible on internet somewhere? (In this
case my problem is that I don't have the distinct location, only place
of birth). Thanks for your assistance,

Reuven Mohr, Jerusalem, Israel reuven.mohr@...
