ALTER family of Gerer Rebbes #general

Tamar Gold <trgold@...>

Looking for information on this family, related to the ALTER family of Gerer
rebbes. Abraham Mordecai's daughter married Chanoch Henoch V. of Lodz. Their
sons were Meir V. died in Haifa 1978 and Abraham Mordecai died in Tel Aviv
1973. Meir's son-in-law was Abraham Landau died 2001, Strykover Rebbe in
Bnai Brak.
In a recent Hamodia article about a megilah written by Yakov Yitzchak
Schwartz (during the Holocaust), it states his father Avraham Yehuda was a
grandson of Yakov Vidislavsky of Lodz as well as of Yeshaya Privas (Priwes)
of Lodz. I'm trying to connect these two together.
Any help appreciated.

June Nickin LIebshard - Mexico City, b. from Jaroslaw or Przemysl, Poland #galicia

Pamela Weisberger

I'm looking for anyone related to the following family, either
currently living in Mexico City or who once lived there:

June Liebshard Nickin, daughter of Hirsh Meilech Liebshard and
Chane Hinde Galler. June was probably born in Jaroslaw or
Przemysl, Poland (Galicia) circa 1923 and left in 1939 on the
S.S. Flanders. She disembarked at Vera Cruz to join her sister
in Mexico City where she was married to a Mr. ____ Nickin.

I would like to find out if she is still alive, along with more
about her sister and her descendants, whether still in Mexico
or in the US. She was profiled in a 1995 newspaper article, and
in 2007 she submitted a testimony to Yad Vashen on behalf of
her parents. Her last address was on Vazquez De Mella.
(Abraham and Samuel Nickin, found on Ancestry, were living in
Mexico City in the 1940s, but I don't know if either of them
were directly related to her. Currently there is a Moishe Tiktin
Nickin, who may be a relative. (Her name in Poland was
obviously not June, but a variant starting with "J.")

If you also know of links to/contact for the Jewish community
of Mexico City, please provide them.

I have in my possession a Death Certificate >from Cook County, Illinois
(Chicago), which indicates the the city of Tarascha, Russia as the birth
place of a relative in 1871. I have had no success as to locating such a
town except for a village in what is now Kyrgyzstan.I have no doubt
that this is not the town/village of birth for this relative.I assume the
town was spelled phonetically, and the town is actually located in
Poland/Russia, possibly near the town of Pultusk. Any assistance would
be appreciated.

Seeking descendants of Tevia & Brucha BARANEK of Kaluszyn (especially Rose KOHL, Toronto) #general

Helen Kohl <kohlh@...>

A friend who is active in the Jewish Genealogical Society forwarded this to
me. Re: THE JEWISHGEN Digest for Monday, February 21, 2011, item 13,seeking
descendants of Tevia & Brucha BARANEK of Kaluszyn (especially Rose KOHL,
Toronto)

I am the daughter of Rose Kohl -- born in Kaluszyn. My mom died several
years ago, but her sister Rochelle (Ruchel) is still very much with us and
her oldest child is named after Tevia. My maternal grandparents were Zlata
and Israel Wolfman. Zlata's brother was my great-uncle Joe Baranek, now
deceased. His wife Ruchel is still alive, in Florida. They have two
daughters, Ann and Beatrice. I have copied this email to Rochelle, Ann and
Beatrice.

If you have information about our family, please let us all know.

Thanks.

Lithuanian transcription help #general

Bob Kosovsky

Hi folks,

I've received some handwritten documents produced in Lithuania at the end of
the 18th century. They use the Latin alphabet, so there's no obvious problem
in reading them.

In attempting to transcribe them into machine-readable form, I'm wondering if
there are any transcription tips, equivalents, etc. I should know concerning
the language used in Lithuania at that time.

Thanks in advance!

With best wishes,

Bob Kosovsky, New York City, seeking any and all permutations/locations of:
KASOVSKI/Y, KASOWSKI/Y, KOSOFSKY, KOSOVSKY, KOSOWSKY, KOSOW, KOSSOVE, etc.

Hi,

Does anyone known about the evacuees to Buzuluk during WW2? I just learnt
that my family all evacuated to Buzuluk >from Kiev in 1941. My great, great
grandmother died and was buried there. Is there any way I could find a
record of her death & burial? Keeping in mind that it was 1941 & that
there was probably no gravestone put up.
I'd appreciate any help.
