Hello Luuk,

According to today's map of Gdansk it is Podwale Staromiejskie street and
indication is that the stock exchange is also located there.

Best regards,

In a birth certificate of 1895, the Klappergasse in Danzig is
mentioned, more exactly Klappergasse 1. Can anyone tell me which
street this is nowadays, and if there was a special building on nr. 1?

Success in finding multiple cousins #general

Ruth Frank <ruth@...>

I have found multiple cousins on both sides of our family through
Jewishgen, My Heritage and Ancestry.com. Finding these family members
has been wonderful but the most remarkable find was thanks to Martina
Berner. Martina posted about 6 weeks ago that she was looking for
families that had members transported >from Berlin to Minsk, Belarus
during the Holocaust. My family was transported >from Berlin to
destination unknown. My mother had searched since the war to try and
find their destination. Mom and I even went to the Red Cross and
asked them to search. The results that we received were destination
unknown. Any time I found a new link I would check for our family. I
responded to Matrina. My families transport dates were not one of
the 2 dates for the Minsk transports, but she asked if I had tried
this link: http://www.bundesarchiv.de/gedenkbuch/ I immediately
entered DEUTSCHKRON and was stunned when my family appeared. What a
gift to be able to tell my mother when and where her family's journey
ended. A biter sweet gift but much needed for closure. I am so happy
that my mother was able to learn this information as she passed away
on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011.

Judentabellen and Judenliste #general

Judith Elam

I have found ancestors on various databases and LDS films. I would now like
to get copies of Judentabellen and Judenliste for the following towns

Kurmark, Brandenburg - Soldin (after 1805), Prenzlau, Spandau (before 1771)
West Prussia - Elbing, Dirschau,
Posen - Schrimm, Fraustadt, Kosten, Lissa, Czempin, Storchnest,
East Prussia - Praszka
Mecklenburg - Neustrelitz, Penzlin

I know the corresponding state archives hold copies (Brandenburgisches
Landeshauptarchiv in Potsdam, Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preussischer
Kulturbesitz in Berlin-Dahlem, AGAD in Warsaw, etc.). I wish I could visit
them, but I can't.

So is there anyone out there who already has these lists and would be
willing to share them? I am happy to share costs. I would also love to
avoid the hassle and major cost of dealing with these archives!

Alternatively, is there anyone who is also interested in obtaining these
lists and willing to share in the cost if I try and obtain them?

Are there any plans to place these lists on Jewishgen? I can be contacted at
elamj@hawaii.rr.com

Has anyone had any luck retrieving foreigner police registration files
from Berlin during the 1920's to 1930's?
I know my relatives emigrated to Berlin and likely had to register

Seeking info Kaminsky/Kominsky arrived in US 1890 from Russia #general

elkamins@...

Hello -

Have been seeking information on my great grandparents, Samuel and
Jennie (Goldstein) Kaminsky. I have found them in the 1910 census in
Philadelphia, which says they were born in Russia, approximately 1873
and arrived in US 1890. Other possible spellings were Kmelnetzky (from
a story told by my great uncle). He also said he was told the family
came >from near Kiev.

So far, no ships records or immigration info have turned them up.
Seeking their Russian hometown and their entry point into US.

Any info GREATLY appreciated!

Just a reminder that it is a good idea to use a meaningful subject line
that summarizes your message, and if possible to include such things as
"translation request", and if known, the language(s) involved, and/or
the surnames, places, time period, etc.

Speaking for myself only, there are many languages and places about
which I know less than nothing, so i would rather look at those
postings which I might be able to help. even in digest form, I
look through a dozen or two messages >from
Jewishgen every day, and out of necessity, I skip those whose
subject lines are vague or not relevant.

Denise Azbill <famaz1@hotmail.com> asked about Charles Kuperstein's
WWI draft registration (Brockton MA, 1917).

Charles registered in the first of three WWI draft registrations. A
slightly different card was used each time. An easy-to-read template
of the questions on the June 5, 1917 card is at

Similar templates are available for the two other drafts...
