Request German translation of Nadworna vital records #general

Carrielynn Apgar

Dear Fellow Genners,

I would like to request your help is translating three vital records from
the town of Nadworna, Poland. First record is birth record of Moses
Halsband. I have done a loose translation of the record headings which are
in Latin, but am unable to read the record information, including
occupation. Second record is birth record of Zirel Halsband, daughter of
Aron Halsband. Text appears to be in German with German headings but I am
unable to read the record entry. Third entry is death record of Aron
Halsband (bottom of page). Need help with record entry.

Files are posted on Viewmate. Please provide a loose translation and contact
me with any questions. Your help is much appreciated.

Help with German abbreviations #germany

Judith Berlowitz <jberlowitz331@...>

Dear GerSIGgers,
I'm searching for members of the PHILIPPSBORN / PHILIPSBORN/ Von
PHILIPSBORN family(-ies?). There are Jewish and non-Jewish (von P.)
branches. Many of the Jewish branch were born in Bentschen, today
Zbaszyn, Poland. I've come across an entry in the Google-book, Zur
Statistik des Koenigl. Joachimsthalischen Gymnasiums by Ernst Bahn,
for Carl Alex (von) PHILIPSBORN, under the heading "1832,Ostern -
Michaelis". There are many abbreviations, which I hope some of you
can spell out for me. Here's the entry:

1. (v.) Philipsborn, Carl Alex. Wilh. Maximilian, 17 J., Schwedt a.
O., Jur. u. Cam.k Wirkl. Geb. Regierungsrat, Ministerialdirektor im
Min. der ausw. Angelegenheiten, Bevolim. z. Bundesrat, Exc.

I'm guessing that this information is about Carl Alex's father but
would love to see it all spelled out.

Re: Obtaining copies of Romanian death records #romania

Beth Long

Currently, all Romanian birth/death marriages through 1911 may be
photographed at any Romanian National archive branch. Most Jewish
records of the former Transylvania have already been digitally
photographed and are on DVD, Some are being indexed now by volunteers
(i.e. Maramaros County and the Oradea area).

Jewish burial records are another matter, and they are the property
of the religious community in question and would need to be obtained
from that entity.

ViewMate Photo Identification: Shaposhnik family of Orgeyev, Bessarabia: do you recognize? #romania

epk13@...

Does anyone recognize these people, members of the SHAPOSHNIK
family of Orgeyev, hat makers?

Several months ago now, in response to one of my queries about
the extended family of Velvel SHAPOSHNIK or Orgeyev (who came
to the US in 1923) and his brother Pinie (who emigrated to Argentina
in 1913), Arieh Shafrir of Israel responded that he, too, was
searching for SHAPOSHNIKS of Orgeyev.

When I searched the Yizkor book for Orgeyev, I discovered that
Pinie SHAPSOHNIK and other members of his family appear in photographs
together with Arieh's grandfather Ruvin and other members of his
SHAPOSHNIK family. They were all members of the hat makers association,
so they clearly all knew each other. But we have not yet been able to
find a direct connection between the two families.

We decided to post this query together in hope of finding someone out
there who recognizes these members of Arieh's family, and so might
provide a missing link for us. Please look at the group of four
people in this photo online at:

http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=19148

Top left: Srul/Israel Shaposhnik, 1909-1940

Bottom left: Ruvin Shaposhnik, 1881-1929
Bottom right: Chava Leya Shaposhnik, 1884-1941

Ruvin and Chava SHAPOSHNIK were the parents of Gershon, Israel
and Itzhak Shaposhnik of Orgeyev, Bessarabia, and the grandparents
of Arieh Shafrir, of Israel. Arieh knows his father Gershon's story,
(Gershon emigrated to then Palestine in October 1935, married Esther
and lived in Haifa until his death in 1998.) Gershon's sister Chaya
(not in photo) married Avraham FINKELSTEIN of Orgeyev and they emigrated
to Palestine too, followed by another brother, Volodya. Arieh is
searching for information and possible relatives for his extended
family.

Ruvin died in 1929. Khava, Srul and Itzhak were murdered by the Nazis.

Please respond privately.

bock and reiter families in NY #hungary

Dear Siggeres,

I am looking for any information about Bock family in New York. As my
relative, Elisabeth (Liesl, Elsie) Bock came 1922 to NYC >from Bratislava she
was helped by her relative Phillip Bock. Later she married Max Reiter and my
last letter contact with her ended about 1985. At that time she lived in
Flushing, NY. I guess she isn't alive anymore (she was 26 years old as she
landed in Ellis Island 1922). I would be thankfull to get any information
about her and about the family of Phillip Bock.
