Krakow Table at the Resource Fair, Sunday 2-5 pm #galicia

Michele Seligmann

Let me know if you will be in Washington.

Please visit the Krakow Table at the Gesher Galicia Resource Fair,
Sunday, August 14, 1011 between 2:00 to 5:00 PM.

Let me know if you have any information that you would like to
share.

There has not been an active Krakow BOF for some time thus my
hope is to create a viable working group of those with roots in
Krakow and environs.

Also, let me know if you would be interested in a BOF meeting
during the conference.

Shalom,

Yes, you! If you happen to be familiar with basic html coding, have some
free time available and would genuinely like to help out our rapidly
expanding Yizkor Book Project, I would be more than very pleased to hear
from you. The work involves converting Word files submitted to our team into
our standard format web pages and if you do feel ready to take this on, here
I am waiting for our email.

Thanking you in advance,

NYC Office of Vital Records: challenges getting a record #general

Renee Steinig

My effort to obtain a 1979 death record >from the NYC Office of Vital Records has
met with repeated rejections:

- Original request was returned six weeks later with a notice indicating that I had
failed to enclose a copy of photo i.d. (Unlikely, but I resent.)

- Second request was returned another six weeks later because my license wasn't
current. (It was current at the time that I copied and mailed it!)

- Third request was returned another six weeks later, again with a claim that I
failed to enclose a copy of photo i.d. This time there's no question: the copy of
a current, signed photo i.d. (a NY State Driver License) that I had sent was
returned along with my application and check!

Has anyone else had similar difficulties recently?

Re: Why St. Louis? #general

Frank Schulaner

BJ Rudman asked what might've brought his gg'father to that city. Must have been
because the 1904 Olympics and Judy Garland's Fair were scheduled together.
Understandable the building and recruiting started as early as 1895, the year
of Sol Rudman's aliyah. St.Louis had to be aware of Chicago's story; their 1892 Fair
wasn't ready to open till 1893.

1934 Pittsburgh Yearbook #general

Carol Jaffe <cmjaffe@...>

I want to thank everyone who answered me in question for 1934 Pittsburgh yearbook
photo. I have already thanked everyone who answered but wanted to thank you all
again. Yes, we did get a photo of Emily SIGAL not >from a yearbook but >from the
Pittsburgh Newspaper Project and her granddaughter is thrilled and excited.

I have been on that site many times and never saw the photo or the article.

Thanks again,
Carol M Jaffe, Oldsmar, FL

Don't forget to recheck JGen resources periodically #general

Lisa Grayson <lisa@...>

Every four or six months I recheck the JewishGen and LitvakSIG databases for any
new info on my obscure MARUCHES ancestors. For a while, I found nothing new. But
yesterday I uncovered helpful Vilnius death and birth records that must have been
recently translated and posted: My g-g-grandfather's brother, Iosel Maruches, had
additional children (by his second or third wife) that I had not known about. The
record shows that one of the sons was baptized and changed his name in 1908 --which
matches a family story >from a distant cousin in Switzerland. This, plus a new death
record in infancy for another son, led me to reconfigure the family tree. And now
there are more possible relatives!

You may have the same luck. Even if you think your search was exhaustive, please
check again. You never know what gems the hard-working JGen volunteers may have
unearthed. I am making a small donation to LitvakSIG in appreciation.

Yours sincerely,
Lisa Grayson

Lipno and Rypin; WEINER in Berdichev; GOLDBERG in Berdichev and Odessa

In March 2011 I had posted a query regarding rights to use a photo I saw on the
Ghetto Fighters House Museum site, recommended by Yohanan Loeffler. Many thanks to
Yohanan in Australia, Howard Orenstein in Britain, Evertjan Hannivoort in the
Netherlands, and Moshe Steinberg in Vancouver for helping me in New York with the
Israeli site !! This is one of the many beauties and wonders of jewishgen.org.

Gratefully,

Possibly the oil boom in the teens and twenties. That's why my ancestors went to
Oklahoma. Some went into the oil business and others went into retail to serve the
