I completely agree. I don't know yet which town in Lativa my

The above-cited organization is a burial organization with graves in Beth David

My maternal grandparents, Samuel Edelstein and Mollie Steinberg Edelstein are

Meler, Meller, Nuler Family #lithuania

Hello,

I haven't had much luck in finding proof of my great great
grandmother's maiden name. Her married name was Shifra Ella MELER, wife
of Shlioma Haim MELER. He was the son of Mordkhel MELER , who was the
son of Daniel MELER.

I have found a record on Jewishgen which shows a Mordkhel NULER, with a
son, Nechemiash NULER. Nechemiash's daughter was Shifra. But I don't
know if that NULER family is the same as the Mordkhel MELER family.

Does anyone have any information about the MELER and/or NULER families?
Are they indeed the same family?

I am also still trying to find information about the widow of my great
uncle, Daniel MELLER, in South Africa. Her name was Dora RUBENSTEIN
MELLER, and she is shown as the surviving spouse of Daniel MELLER when
he died in December, 1918 in Johannesburg. Did Dora re-marry? Did she
remain in South Africa? And what became of her and Daniel's two
children: Solomon/Solly MELLER, born 1906, and Sophie MELLER, born
1910...both in Johannesburg? Did they stay in South Africa, marry and
have children? And where is Dora MELLER buried? And where are Solly and
Sophie buried?

By the way, Daniel MELLER, was the youngest child of Shlioma Haim MELER
and Shifra Ella. Daniel was born in about 1872 in Lithuania. He added
an L to his last name when he emigrated to South Africa (SAR) and became
a naturalized citizen of SAR. He died at age 46 and is buried at
Braamfontein Cemetery in SAR. I have his Death Notice, Death
Certificate, and many records about his business, which was picture
framing. The business was called "MELLER and SHURE". (SHURE was his
sister's husband, Harris SHURE, who was my maternal great grandfather.)

I would appreciate hearing >from anyone who has any information about
the MELER or MELLER or NULER families. There are also connections to
the following families: GORDON, MESSIE, ENDLIN, SHUR/SHURE,

Dear All

Levy GROENWOOD (b.1817), also spelt as GROENEWEND and GREENWOOD
was described as a Nurse and Watcher To The Sick in the
1871 and 1881 census. His wife, Julia/Judith (b.1827) was a Sextoness
in 1881. They were living in Goodman's Fields.

Betsy NIEUVENDYK (b.1825), who passed away in Whitechapel, March reg, 1904,
was living with them in 1871 and 1881.

Has anybody researched Levy and his family or know which
Synagogue he and his wife belonged to. Levy was the informant for
Solomon LEWIS/Lewis SOLOMON, who passed away in October, 1867,
105 Leman Street, Whitechapel. Levy's address was 3 Tilley St, Spitafields.

Please contact me on ndogin@bigpond unless you feel the information

Many thanks to Miriam Margolyes, Marcus Shapiro, Jeannette Rosenberg,

Dear Researchers,
The last few weeks have been a genealogical whirlwind. I received an
email >from Diana, a woman in Israel who was researching her family's
surname using the JewishGen Family Finder (JGFF). Because (1) Diana's
maiden surname is very similar to my mother's, and (2) Diana was born in
the capital city of Moldova (despite the distance >from where my mother
was born in Moldova), she decided to contact me. She provided the names
of some of her ancestors, but nothing seemed to match those in my
family. While we were exchanging emails, a volunteer researcher on
another site who was assisting her, got into the act and tried to
figure out whether and how we were related.

Some background material, along with updates---

(1) Two years ago, I hired a Moldovan researcher to look for records
in the National Archives (in Chisinau) with our unusual family name.
She found some, but I did not recognize any given names except one,
Moshko (Moshe). At the time, I had suspicions that my GGF's name was
Moshe, based on the Duma Voters List, but no verification.
UPDATE: Earlier this year, I obtained a photo of my GF's tombstone
and it indicated that his father's name was Moshe.

(2) Three years ago, I was in contact with another Israeli woman,
Ella (whose maiden surname was similar to my mother's),and we tried,
unsuccessfully at the time to figure out the connection. She, too,
was born in Moldova.
UPDATE: I've been in touch with Ella's son, Eddie, who supplied a
copy of a Romanian nationality certificate listing Ella's GF, Leizer,
her father Mendel, and 4 of Mendel's siblings.

(3) Five years ago, I found a Page of Testimony (POT) at Yad Vashem,
for my mother's brother, Aizik, which was filled out by a woman named
Sara (in Israel), whose last name I did not recognize either. The
POT indicated that Sara was the "son-in-law" of my uncle. That was
confusing, to say the least. My mother told me about her brother, Aizik,
who had remained in Moldova, and that I had one cousin named Suzi.
Did Aizik have another child, a male, and was Sara his wife?
UPDATE: Thanks to Diana, we discovered that Sara is my first cousin!
Her nickname in Moldova was "Suzi." I've been in touch with her and
her son Alex.

(4) About 7 years ago, I corresponded with someone named Dan, who
lives in Southampton, UK. He found me using JGFF. His grandmother
Ita's surname matches that of my mother's.
UPDATE: Dan has been in touch with Ella, Diana, and his GM's sister's
grandson in the US, Gershon.

Click on the link below to see how HOWARD, SARA (& son, ALEX),
ELLA (son & EDDIE), DIANA and DAN are related.
