My father's Hebrew name is Chanine and as a consequence so is my son's.
I've found this name to be one of the most difficult first names to locate.
In the above spelling, Chanine, it is on JewishGen, but not before you pass
through many female responses in the Jewish Given Names Database. I know
you believe your spelling is correct and I believe you do have a version of
the spelling....

The recent discussion on the digest was regarding the Hebrew name "Chanaya."
It is spelled, chet, nun, nun, yud ending with heh. It should not be confused
with the more common (amongst Ashkenazim) Aramaic name "Chanina" (which seems
to be the one mentioned above)." Chanina is spelled chet, nun, yud ending with
aleph. These two names are also pronounced differently. Another different name
mentioned earlier in the thread was "Chanan." This name, although with same root,
is used today as an independent name, but was generally not used amongst
Askenazim as such until recent times. "Chanan", with Ashkenazic pronunciation
"Chonon/Chonen" was used by Yiddish speakers as a truncated form of the Hebrew
name Elchanan

Looking for Edith and Judith WAAS #general

Michael Waas

Hi,

Thanks for all the help offered yesterday, I will be getting the
information I need early next week >from one of our very valuable
contributors. Thanks again, JewishGen!

While I wait for confirmation, I would like to find out what became of
Edith WAAS (nee DUBIN) and her daughter Judith Waas. If anyone knows
anything, please contact me.

Edith was born circa 1901 in NYC and Judith was born circa 1932.
Judith is probably still alive, which makes it all the more important
that I find this information out.

Best,

Michael Waas

Family HEUMANN in Aachen #germany

Corinna Broeckmann <corinna.broeckmann@...>

Greetings!
I am looking for information on Oskar HEUMANN (born 17 Jan. in Aachen) and
his family. He seemed to have started to become an actor. >from August 1931
he lived in the Kaiserallee 68 (today Oppenhoffallee) in Aachen. He died in
Mauthausen on 5 December 1942.

Also in the Kaiserallee 68 lived Anna HEUMANN, nee Watolla (born 16 August
1904 in Aachen). How she was related to Oskar is unclear to me.
In addition, in Kaiserallee 68 lived Salomon Joh. HEUMANN (26. July 1868 in
Fuerth/Bavaria) with his wife Thessy HEUMANN, nee ROSENTHAL (born 28.10.1876
in Hochberg). They probably died in the 1930s or earlier while Salomon
left Germany for New York in 1939 and survived. Again it is unclear to me
whether and how they might have been related to Oskar.

Does anyone know more? Regards,

Corinna Broeckmann, Aachen, Germany corinna.broeckmann@t-online.de
