Yizkor-Books-In-Print Project is pleased to announce the publication
in hard cover: “Shards of Memory: Messages >from the Lost Shtetl of
Antopol, Belarus - Translation of the Yizkor (Memorial) Book of the
Jewish Community of Antopol.”

This memorial book of the Jewish Community of Antopol, Belarus weaves
together the history of a vibrant Jewish community, annihilated during
World War II, as told through first-hand accounts gathered >from its
original inhabitants. These stories edited and translated >from Yiddish
and Hebrew are dedicated to the Antopol survivors and the memory of
the 3,000 martyrs, whose names and stories fill these pages.

The book contains first-hand account of the vibrant life of the shtetl
before the Shoah, including descriptions of institutions, important
personalities, clubs, etc, and then what is known about the Holocaust
in Antopol. The book is a history of the town, that can serve as a
near-personal history for descendants of the town and material for
researchers.

"Shards of Memory: Messages >from the Lost Shtetl of Antopol, Belarus" is
the translation of the Yizkor (Memorial) Book of the Jewish Community of
Antopol. It was translated by Nathan Snyder and edited by Alicia Esther
Goldberg.

It was just published by the Yizkor-Books-in-Print Project, part of
Yizkor Books Project of JewishGen, Inc.

I am having trouble reading a manifest for someone...it's the **first name**
that's got me baffled.
I hope someone else's technique is better than mine!

It's transcribed as TOHO Maslowicz on Ancestry, and IEHO on FamilySearch
and Ellis Island.
Here is the information >from the manifest...he is on line 17:

Arrival Date:21 Feb 1908
Birth Date:abt 1886
Birth Location: kiew
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/ Nationality:Hebrew
Port of Departure:Bremen
Port of Arrival:New York, New York
Ship Name:Rhein

It looks like he's traveling with the person on line 16....going to a
"friend" in PA.
