Hello,
I've posted a picture on ViewMate at the following address
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM45576

It was taken at a wedding in Orebro (capital o with umlaut), Sweden in July
1953. The rabbi to the far right is Rav Avraham Israel Jacobson zatzal.
Almost all of the guests were survivors >from nazi camps. But who are/where
they?

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thank you very much.

Postcards from the Past #general

Bob Fitterman

I have a large collection of family photos, most of which are well
documented. Some of them, however, have been a mystery for over 50
years, since I first encountered them. In October 2015 I had a major
breakthrough, discovering some things about a couple photos which then
led me to other genealogical discoveries. The process was so
eye-opening that I decided to document my experience and discoveries.
The video, which I have titled "Postcards >from the Past" is available
on Youtube: https://youtu.be/JLQdIoIKpuw

I want to thank the resources that JewishGen provided. It definitely
helped me establish some of the facts of my search and led me to
people who could supply additional guidance.

The video is about Kosow Poleski, Poland aka Kosova, Russia (before
WWI) aka Kosava, Belarus (today)
The video deals with these family names: Rubinovitz (also spelled
Rubinowicz, Rabinowitz and Robinovits) and Wegodsky.

There was (and still is) Chodaczow near Lancut and a small village
Chochlow near Sokal, which is now in Ukraine and I am not sure of its
new Ukrainian name.

Re: Siberia Traveling back to Europe in 1910 #general

Ann Rabinowitz

In response to Gayle's inquiry, all one has to do is go to the Internet and find
an answer about the railway as it is described in great detail on numerous sites.
The Trans-Siberian Railway started construction in 1898 on the stretch >from
Chita to Vladivostok.

Researchers may also like to see my post about this on the JewishGen Facebook
page as I have attached a photo taken in 1903 of the Trans-Siberian Railway, the
west side of Khilok station, Chita oblast.

This confirms that the train was available for travel prior to 1910 when Gayle's
great uncle used it to get to/>from Chita. In addition, I have also attached a
photo of the Chita Railway Station in 1910.

Re: Chaine CHILMANESDORF #general

Debbie Wetlaufer asked for help finding "85 Ridge Street, Manhattan NY" in the
1900 Census, in order to find "Chaine Chilmanesdorf." Steve Morse's wonderful
site is the best place to find the Enumeration District (ED) for a particular
address.

Go to www.stevemorse.org/census/unified.html?year=1900 ;
select the state, county, and town. You'll find nine possibilities for Ridge
Street in Manhattan. Click on the map; the address is between Rivington and
Delancey; that narrows the selection to two EDs. I think you'll find the
building in district 0283. The records for 85 Ridge begin on page 31. Good luck!

Magierow Cadastral Map 1854 on the Gesher Galicia Map Room #ukraine

Jay Osborn <jay.osborn@...>

Gesher Galicia has just posted a complete and beautiful historical
1854 cadastral map of the town of Magierow (Maheriv, today in the
Zhovkiv raion of the Lviv oblast of western Ukraine):

http://maps.geshergalicia.org/cadastral/magierow-maheriv-1854/

Buildings and land parcels are each clearly numbered on the map;
redline revisions to building and parcel outlines indicate changes
intended for a later edition. The map shows a well-developed market
square with two churches, a synagogue in a growing Jewish center,
administration buildings, a mill, and gardens supporting a monastery.
Further out, one can find an elaborate Catholic cemetery in one of
five hamlets linked by roads to the main town.

Acquisition of the map scan images and assembly of this browsable map
were made possible by Gesher Galicia member contributions to the
Magierow Galician Archival Records Project (GARP); more info about
GARP projects is available here:
