Is my family jewish? #general

Anette Siff <as@...>

Dear organisation,

I hope You can help.
My father was born i Gdansk in 1931. My grandmothers was unmarried.
She was born Karl-Jude. (or maybe Carl-Jude) They moved to Denmark in
1934, where she was married to a danish man, and got a new surname.
And then the war came.
I do not anything about my family in Gdansk. My grandmother never
talked about her family or the time in Gdansk. Because of her surname
I have always wondered, if she was jewish.
Can You help me - is the name jewish?
Or where can I find something about it?

Best wishes from

Anette Siff

Four One Company LTD (Canada) #general

Steve Stein <steinsteve@...>

There was once a website at www.fourone.com which housed a number of
annotated maps and apparently offered printed maps for sale. The Nesvizh,
Belarus Kehilalinks page refers to it for maps of Nesvizh. The link no
longer works and it does not appear to have "moved." Does anyone know what
happened to it?

Do records exits for individuals who came to Palestine pre-1900? I am
looking for Moses Seip Goldman who spent time in Palestine before
immigrating to the US in 1890. It may be in Palestine the he became a

I think it could be Polonka of Novogrudsky Uezd, Grodno Guberniya. There were
two more villages called Polonka in Grodno Guberniya but only this one
(of Novogrudsky Uezd) had a great Jewish population: (1897 year data)
645 inhabitants, 549 of them - Jews.
All the best,

Wedding to MAGYARFALVA (HU), probably now "HARKA" (HU) #hungary

LISBETH

Hello

I would like to know if I can find online wedding registries of
Magyarfalva (Hungary).
Maybe somebody have a reference to an LDS record ?

Two couples of my ancestors were married in this village in 1903 and 1911.
In addition, I would like to understand why they got married there,
while they lived in Vienna (Austria) then not so far

Is it a possibility because the children were born before marriage?
However the father was present for each birth

Many thanks in advance

Viewmate 1944 Protection Document ID Request #hungary

jzeisler@...

Hi H-Sig,
I've posted a protection document >from 1944 Budapest that enabled my cousin to escape the ghetto. It is on ViewMate at the following address:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM45840

I'm interested in determining where it came from, and what organization might have issued it. It's very simple and printed in both French and Russian. The opposite side has a picture of my cousin.

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thank you very much.

Swedish Protection Document Help #hungary

jzeisler@...

Hello all,
I have a copy of my cousin's Swedish protection document >from 1944 that
might have allowed her to get out of the ghetto in Budapest. I was
wondering if anyone might know if there is additional information
available regarding the person noted in the document? The document is
number #406 and the name is Iren SVAB (nee Groedel). Are the files still
available, and if so, where can I access them?

Thank you!

Moderator: H-SIG volunteers are in the process of transcribing a list of
about 5,000 persons who received Wallenberg passports. We received the list
from the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and the records will be uploaded to the
JewishGen database when the work is completed. Most of the records include the
birthplace and birthdate of the passholder, mother's maiden name, and Budapest
street address. Check the H-SIG list archives for more information about this
project. If you are interested in working on the effort, please contact Vivian

My 1890 German dictionary translates kraempeln as to card, which I take to
mean the combing of wool or other fibres preparatory to spinning.
