Searching TENENBAUM in Mokrany #general

WALTER ELIAS

I am looking for any information about the TENENBAUM family >from the
Shtetl of Mokrany about 16km east of Malaryta in present day Belarus.
I am interested also in how large the pre-war community was, the
percentage of Jewish population, any WWII history, if there is a
Yizkor book and whether there are living descendants of TENENBAUMs
from Mokrany families who might get in touch with me. I have posted
this on the Belarus SIG also.
Thank you.

Re: 38th Royal Fusiliers Question #general

Moishe Miller

Dear Group,

For those with possible relatives in that battalion, see the ship
manifest of the SS Saturina, sailing >from Glasgow on 11 October 1919.
The ship arrived in Quebec on 20 October 1919. Find an Abraham Keller,
age 22, >from Russia. Interestingly, the entire page of passengers on the
manifest list shows the last place of residence as the Royal British
Army. It lists Abraham as part of the 38th Battalion.

How do I find out the Unit of the 38th Royal Fusiliers in which my

war diary on Ancestry which is for the 2nd Battalion 29th Division, in
the Gallipoli Section. I don't think it's relevant to my GGF as I know
he was shipped out to Egypt and served in Palestine but it would help
to find out more.
I suggest checking out two sources. The first is the British Army
Service Records 1914-1919 available (for a small payment) on
findmypast.com. You may be able to find his scanned discharge
documents, containing a full service record, on this site. I would
also contact the archives of Beit Hagdudim (Legion House) in
Avichail, Israel, which has records on individual Legion soldiers.
I should point out that the 38th Battalion Royal Fusiliers was
actually the name of the unit, within the larger British Army regiment
called the Royal Fusiliers. Historically, the 38th Battalion was one of
a group of 4 battalions collectively known as the Jewish Legion. The
38th was mostly British Jews, but the Legion grew to include the 39th
Battalion (mostly Americans and Canadians), and the 40th Battalion
(Palestinian Jews)

The film Denial - Did the Holocaust Occur #general

Tony Hausner

This is a one time posting to make sure everyone knows about this
most important film.

See http://www.bleeckerstreetmedia.com/denial for more information
and the trailer. Trailer can be seen at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYcx43AmAyY

"The whole world knows that the Holocaust occurred. Now she needs to
prove it."

This film officially opens in NYC and LA on 9/30. In 10 other cities
on 10/7 and more cities on 10/14. The schedule is at the Bleeker
Street site above.

Given that Holocaust denial is such a major part of history, I felt it
important that everyone know. I apologize if others have already posted.

I have scheduled a preview in Bethesda, MD on 10/6 and have sold out one
theater of 240 persons. We are looking into whether we will setup
arrangements for another theater.

I have lots more info about the film, relevant literature, interviews,
film reviews etc if interested.

Thank you to Tony for sharing this.

My grandfather was interned in the Onchan camp >from Jul 1940-Sep 1941;
his letters to my grandmother are also at the USHMM and I've been
building a website with them:

http://greenealogy.greenehouse.com/Bissinger/WW2/letters/1

If there are other descendants of "enemy alien" detainees on the Isle
of Man who would be interested in forming a SIG and sharing
information, please be in touch.

Thanks,

Re: DNA testing in France #dna

Gary Mokotoff

Roberta Berman stated her U.S. family has had their DNA testing through
FTDNA. Which company should she use for her French relatives? Answer:
Continue using FTDNA. I have had them send kits to a number of countries
(even Ukraine) with no problem. By having your entire family with one
provider, it is easier to match results.

Gary Mokotoff

Re: DNA testing in France #dna

Beth Long

When testing people in Hungary and Romania (using FTDNA), I have the
kit mailed to me, then I mail it to the subject myself. I "re-package"
it, enclosing a return envelope (addressed to me). When I receive the
kit, I then mail it to FTDNA. This also allows me to fill out the form
for them (most of them do not speak English). If they would like you to
manage the kit for them, you can add your e-mail address on the top
line, with theirs below it. This will make you the "primary" e-mail,
which lets you recover a lost password, etc.

Beth Long

___

All the DNA testing for my family (all Jewish) in the US was done
through FTDNA.
I would like to test two people who married into my family and live in
Paris. They are not Jewish, but think they have Jewish ancestors.
Which company would you suggest and are there any problems sending kits
to Paris? Or perhaps there are other DNA companies or affiliates?

All the best,
Roberta Berman
