ViewMate translation request - Hebrew #germany

Alan Ehrlich

Hello,

I've posted a short passage in Hebrew on ViewMate. It's the opening
paragraph of an article by the noted prewar genealogist Prof. Dr. David
Kaufman: "Modechai Model Oettingen and his Children".

I would be grateful for a translation of the Hebrew (only) portion of this
text: http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM51849

For information: Modechai Model Oettingen (family aka Ries(s) - Wiener -
Etingen - Schuster - Model - Ruess - etc.) was born in the mid-1500s and
died in the early 1600s in the town of Oettingen where he served as Rabbi
and also court Jew. His wife was Bona Guenzburg, daughter of Simon
Guenzburg. Notably, one branch of Model's descendants was exiled >from Vienna
in 1671 and thereupon moved to Berlin where they founded the Jewish
Community which still exists today.

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thank you very much. Alan Ehrlich Geneva, Switzerland

ALBERTS - Friedrichsdorf / Hamburg. #germany

nigel wilson <wilsonettess@...>

Seeking information on the following family:

Carl ALBERTS 1839 d 1895 (England) and his sister Frederike 1841 d 1905 (England)
and 'possibly' another sibling Joseph 1838, were all born in Friedrichsdorf
but the family later moved to Hamburg.

They were the children of Simon Abraham ALBERTS and Ernestine nee ENGEL -
who died 1854 and 1860 respectively and are buried in the Grindelfriedhof
Cem Hamburg. (according to Jewishgen worldwide burials - together with
grave numbers.)

Carl and Frederike ALBERTS moved to Bradford UK in the 1860s and I have
full family details of Carl's descendants - Frederike ALBERTS remained a spinster.

My search is for information on Simon ALBERTS and Ernestine nee ENGEL,
who were their parents, did they have siblings etc.?
How can I find out when the Grindelfriedhof Cemetery was destroyed and people
were re-interred in different cemeteries?

:- For more information on the destroyed Grindelfriedhof see:
http://www.xn--jdischer-friedhof-altona-vsc.de

from the database project of the Eduard Dukesz Fellow and the Hamburg
Gesellschaft fuer Juedische Genealogie.

Where do I search - I also understand that records of b/m/d in
Friedrichsdorf were not noted until the 1870s - am I correct?

Any leads would be so gratefully appreciated.

Dear SIGgers,

I have been waiting for an opportunity to introduce myself and my research.

Thanks to this post I have found a book written by a relative on my
family tree! According to my tree research Mathilda Wertheim Stein is
my second cousin once removed and I shall hasten to find this book as
many ancestors came >from this part of the world. I am not in contact
with descendants of this branch of the family as I have been
concentrating on my maternal grandfather so far, rather than my
maternal grandmother. I am so very grateful to Jacob
Rosen-Koenigsbuch for this title. I shall be in touch in the future
with some specific questions! With thanks,

Dear Researchers,

My husband's family is >from Buczacz and Tlumacz. His great grandfather
is Aizik JEKEL and his great grandmother is Chaya JEKEL nee LANDMAN.
We are planning to visit the two towns next summer and need some
helps/tips on a reliable guide who knows the Jewish areas as well as the
locations of the Jewish Cemetery, synagogues, etc. We have located the
great grandparents' tombstones.

I have a number of addresses that the LANDMAN family lived in, so it
would be wonderful to find a street map that I can identify the locations
of the homes where they lived in the 1920 - 1937.

Any help would be wonderful and greatly appreciated.
