Genealogical Conference in Warsaw #bessarabia

Yefim Kogan

Hi everybody,

I hope you are planning to go to old Europe next summer and participate in genealogical conference
in Warsaw. I am planning to be at the conference. I am sure that the conference be terrific and we could
learn a lot >from researchers >from all around the world. The plan is to invite a researcher >from Moldova,
who did a lot for our Bessarabian genealogical community, and he will present on a number of
sessions/discussions, etc.

I also would like to hear that some of you are going to present on a topics on
Bessarabia/Moldova/Transnistria. Please share your ideas, course we should have our Bessarabian
community well prepared - we do not want to send proposals for similar topic - they will not be
accepted by program committee.

I would love to hear a presentation about research in a Bessarabian uezd (region), or town, like Orhey
uezd, or Sekureny, or Brichany uezd or/and town, Akkerman, etc. Also, maybe someone will show
research on Bessarabian Agricultural communities or Merchants community in Kishinev... Of course
you may have your own ideas, and I would like to hear >from you.

I hope to hear >from you soon. I think by the end of 2017 we have to submit proposals.

All the best,
Yefim Kogan

Levie Jacob Meyer from Cophenhagen to Emden #scandinavia

Joelle Meyer <joelle.meyer24@...>

Dear all

I am looking for my ancestors named MEYER >from Emden. Thanks to the city of
Emden and a dear helper, I have found that the MEYER are coming from
Copenhagen. My great grandfather Philippe Uri Meyer and his father Levie
Jacob MEYER were the leader of the Jewish community in Emden.

I have no experience in Danish Jewish genealogy.

My ancestors >from Copenhagen name is Levie Jacob MEYER or Levi MEYER
probably born in 1804 whose wife Gertrude GOLDSCHMIDT, whose father is Jacob
MEYER and Gutel NATHAN
Perhaps are the wife coming >from Copenhagen too.

Would any of you have information on my family ?

Also if anyone could just help tell me how I can know whether we refer to
death or Birth.
For example number 353 in the page below
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17117291#153723,25618605
or number 454
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17117291#153723,25618620
or number 12
https://www.sa.dk/ao-soegesider/da/billedviser?epid=17117291#153723,25618631

I see each time 3 different dates and I am not sure about which one is the
date of the "event"
Also I am not sur to the see the name of the parents

Many thanks and best regards

Friends -

I search my paternal cousin: Sherie Lynn (COHN) McLEAN/ROBINS, in her 60s
now, San Francisco Bay area, and possibly Arkansas.

I have a wonderful genealogy-based story to relate to her about her UK-born
grandfather (my uncle by marriage), Richard "Dick" Alexander PORTER, and it
would be a "tragedy" if the story does not reach that branch of the family.

Jeremy Frankel, of the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish Genealogy Society,
came up with several leads, but none panned-out. Thank you, Jeremy!

My great-grandfather's name was Bendet, which was used on his
children's tombstones as his Hebrew name. Would Benjamin be forbidden
as a name for a grandson, according to Ashkenazic naming customs? My
father's name was originally Benjamin but was changed within a few
weeks of his birth. His brother was named Benjamin a few years later,
which makes me think Benjamin was a forbidden name during the
grandfather's lifetime, and he must have died in the interim.
Bendet/Bendit/Bendix/Benoit = [Latin:] Benedictus = Baruch
