(UK) Sephardic Community Launches Genealogy Service Assisting Descendants of Inquisition to Get Spanish and Portuguese Passports #sephardic

Jan Meisels Allen

With the UK leaving the European Union, "Brexit", The Spanish and Portuguese
Community (S&P) launched an internet-based ancestry tracking service to help
those to get EU-qualifying passports. As previously reported, both Spain
and Portugal have enacted laws requiring applicants to prove their descent
from an Iberian Sephardic ancestor. Once the applicant has supplied the
required evidence under the Spanish or Portuguese laws, the S&P will issue
a letter to the appropriate authorities: the Lisbon or Porto communities to
the Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain. The S&P will also assist
those congregants who qualify under the laws of several of the "daughter
congregations" of the London Bevis Marks Synagogue, in Barbados and Jamaica.
To read more see:
http://jewishnews.timesofisrael.com/sephardi-community-launches-genealogy-service/

The S&P was originally founded in 1657, as The Spanish and Portuguese Jews'
Congregation of London. The Bevis marks Synagogue opened in 1701 and is
still in regular use was not the first Sephardic synagogue in London, but
replaced the original synagogue. To read more about the S&P see:

Jaslo, Krosno Poland and the ZILBER Family #general

leah teicher <anafa-e@...>

Dear Genners,

We are looking for the family or descendants of Ze'ev/Wolf ZILBER (born
around 1905?- 1942) who was born in Krosno, Poland.
He was married to Esther (nee FREUND) ZILBER >from Jaslo, Poland.
The family lived in Krosno or Jaslo. They had 2 children: Moshe (1935-1942)
and Sarah (1937-1942) ZiILBER.
We know that the whole family perished probably in Belzec.

WOLF's father was Chaim ZILBER >from Jaslo, Poland, and mother Chaya (nee
ROSENFELD) >from Debica, Poland .
Both lived in Jaslo. The last information we have, is that Chaim and Chaya
with their daughter Rachel, her husband and 4 children escaped east to
Russia.
They survived and came to live after the war in Kibbutz Merchavia, in
Israel, following their eldest daughter, who already had lived in the
kibbutz since 1929.

Thank you.
Please answer privately,

Jewish Hospital in Uman #ukraine

jskarf@...

I am wondering if anyone has information about a Jewish hospital that
existed in Uman in the early 1900s.
My great-grandmother appeared in the 1897 in this hospital. Other than
this reference, I have turned up only a couple of references to various
Jews being brought to the Jewish hospital in Uman during the 1919 pogroms.
Does anyone have more information about this institution?

Thanks,

Josh

LEVITAN connection #lithuania

Angie Elfassi

Hi,

I wrote some years ago about a connection between my family
REICH/RAYKHZELIGMAN and LEVITAN.

Geives Rubin LEVITAN b. c. 1858 married a 2nd cousin twice
removed Sora (Sonia?) REICHZELIGMAN b. 1872, both >from Lithuania.

I think their descendants emigrated to the US.

To the best of my knowledge they had 4 children:
Yosef b. 1895
Zalman 1897
Nakhman 1904
and a daughter

Does anyone have any information or connection to this family?

Thanks in advance.
