Volunteers needed to extract business directories from late 19th and early 20th centuries #bessarabia

Hi everybody,

I am back bothering you about volunteer work. First I want to let you know that WE ALL are
volunteers. Some times I am getting message >from our members assuming that this is my
full job. That is not the case, I still have 40 hour full time work at Software development
company... that is why even I am trying to respond to all your messages, it takes time.

All our projects are done by volunteers!!! And I know that in our community there are many
people who are can help. Yesterday I posted a message about Revision List project, and that
we had >from 2009 about 50 people working on these records, but today we have about 10.
Of course people are doing work and leaving for other projects, or personal things.

I found for example that Jeff Wexler started Business directories project, completed one, and
for another year is waiting for volunteers to come back... and work on Business Directory
projects! Here is his message:

The Bessarabia SIG is extracting information >from the Vsia Rossiya (All Russia) business
directories for Bessarabia and Transnistria >from 1895, 1897, 1899, 1900, 1902, and 1912.

We need Russian-speaking volunteers to identify the Jewish records >from Bessarabia and
Transnistria in these materials and to transcribe, on a template Excel spreadsheet, names
and business information. These materials are typeset and very legible.

We currently need volunteers for the following towns: (1) Ataki; (2) Balta (in Podolia); (3) Beltsi;

Searching for descendants of Morris and Harry WEISMAN who lived in Cleveland, Ohio c.1910> #general

Morris (Moishe) was born circa 1875 and Harry circa 1880, both
likely in Lithuania. They had 3 brothers and 1 sister (Samuel Joseph,
Isaac, Ethel (married to Max KOTZER) and Alexander). Their parents
were Avrom Yehuda WEISMAN (d. 1906) and Hinda nee BRANISON (d.1926).

Morris died circa 1940; he was married to Henke for whom I have neither
DoB or DoD nor maiden surname. I believe their children were Mary
(married to Harry GREEN), Hymie WEISMAN, and Fae (married to Frank
MIDDLEMAN).

Harry died circa 1948; he was married to Nellie (b.1886 - d.1938)
whose maiden name may have been BLOCK. Among their children were
Julia (married to Jake MINTZ), Abie WEISMAN, Eddie WEISMAN, Sydney
WEISMAN (married 1st to Nanette and 2nd to Lois), Ben WEISMAN
(married to Pat), Hymie WEISMAN and Pacey WEISMAN (possibly known
as Paul).

I believe that upon entering the U.S., Morris and Harry initially
settled in the Cleveland, Ohio area with their families and were
partners in some type of scrap business.

My grandparents, Alexander WEISMAN and Gissa (nee SAX) moved >from
Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Cleveland in 1915 with my father, Aube
WEISMAN (b.1914). Their other children, my aunt Ann and uncles,
Samuel Joseph and Morris were all born in Cleveland. It is my
understanding that my grandfather Alex worked with his brothers
in the scrap business. My grandfather Alex was killed in a train
accident during a terrible snow storm in December 1922; eventually
my grandmother and her children moved back to Toronto.

I have been told that Harry (with or without Nellie) eventually moved
to Pittsburgh, PA to be closer to Julia and Jake MINTZ. I do not know
if Morris and Henke and their children remained in Cleveland.

I have established family trees for my families on MyHeritage.com;

I currently have 856 people on my WEISMAN/EDSON family tree, all
descendants of my great grandparents and great uncles and great aunts.
I am not 100% certain of all the facts listed above and am aware of
some gaps. I am hoping that through the auspices of JewishGen.org, the
relatives I'm looking for will contact me and help me to add to our
family tree.

I just learned of an area called "Lithuania Minor" that was part of
East Prussia between 1795 and 1918 but was heavily settled by ethnic
Lithuanians. Most of it is now located in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia,
with small parts also in Lithuania and Poland. I think there is a good
chance that a family I am researching has some roots there. I have
already checked (to no avail) the portions of this area that are now
in Lithuania. Are there records for the portion of Lithuania Minor now
located in Kaliningrad Oblast, including Kaliningrad and Tilsit
(Sovetsk), and if so, in what country should I look for them?

JRI-Poland now using electronic signing for Database Sharing Agreements #poland

Long-time JRI-Poland supporters are aware that when they make
a Qualifying Contribution to a town indexing/extracting project,
they sign a Database Sharing Agreement before receiving a file
of record information. (This is part of JRI-Poland's protocol
to enable our contributors to receive information with their
family record even before the town project is fully funded and
made publicly searchable in the online JRI-Poland database.)

While we initially exchanged agreements with Qualified Contributors
by snail mail and more recently by email using PDF attachments,
we have now instituted the ultimate electronic system for signing
agreements.

Starting immediately, agreements will be handled through Docusign,
the most widely used electronic signature system.

The JRI-Poland Docusign system was implemented by our new Database
Sharing Agreement Coordinator, Sherry Hines who has taken over >from
long-time volunteer Roni Liebowitz. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank Roni for many years of dedicated attention
to this important role in serving the JRI-Poland research community.

And of course, Yasher Koach to Sherry for implementing a system that
will make life so much easier for JRI-Poland administration and
supporters.
