Disappointing DNA test results #dna

David Goldman

Greetings, everyone. As a totally new person to all the science regarding
family DNA (most of which I still don't understand anyway), I am
experiencing the frustration of not seeing interesting discoveries even
after contacting some individuals who appear as almost 100% matches beyond
the 4th or 6th generation.
We shared names of towns and family names, and unfortunately nothing clicks.
So the best I can feel at the present is simply an intellectual interest in
assuming that this science has shown me a slew of people whose ancestors
must have been related to mine somehow three hundred years ago, about which
those not involved in genealogy might just say "big deal, everybody is
related somewhere along the line. So what else is new?"
But beyond that as a "first grader" in DNA issues, I don't see any
interesting discoveries having done both the Ancestry and FTDNA tests.

Seeking descendants of Leibe KADISHEWICZ in Argentina #general

Jay Gilbert

At the request of two friends, Rosa Leader Smith and Susan Leader, I am
trying to help them find the current locations of and establish contact with
their relatives in Argentina, and I would greatly appreciate assistance in
this effort.

Leibe KADISHEWICZ (perhaps also known as Leibe LEADER or Leibe KARP) was
born in the l880's in or near Slonim or north of Slonim in Lide, currently
in Belarus. He was said to have been living in Bialystok in Poland in the
early l930's. It is not certain whether he perished in the Holocaust, or is
buried in Santiago del Estero, Argentina.

As of l981 it was known that Leibe had grand- and perhaps great
grandchildren living in the Buenos Aires area of Argentina. In a typed
letter to Rosa and Susan's parents in that year, Leibe's youngest brother
provided the following information on the names and addresses of their
relatives in Argentina:

Laura Galeamoff, Pasaje Beir ***, ** San Martin, Buenos Aires Provincia

(Female?) Kadischewich, Pasaje Natal ****, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Jose and Flora Soifer, Avenida Juan B. Justo, **** Piso 4/10, Buenos Aires,
Argentina

There also may have been a Sylvia and a Lea Soifer (?)

Please contact me privately if you can suggest how we might locate these or
any direct descendants of Leibe Kadischewicz currently living in Argentina.
Thank you very much.

Rabbi Isaac LEADER of Bennington Vermont #general

Jay Gilbert

I am seeking information >from anyone having knowledge of the rabbinate of
Isaac LEADER of Bennington, Vermont, during the years 1908-1933, on behalf
of two of his granddaughters, Susan Leader and Rosa Leader Smith. In
addition to leading services at the synagogue in Bennington he is thought to
have had a traveling rabbinate in southern Vermont, and perhaps in the
bordering portion of New York State and northwestern Massachusetts. Please
contact me privately if you have any knowledge of Rabbi Leader's efforts
during those years.

Thank you very much.

ViewMate translation request - Russian & Hebrew #general

Amanda Samuels <amandasamuels@...>

I have posted my grandfather Charles Arkles' birth record (Vilna 1902) to
Viewmate. Here is the link.

www.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/responselist.asp?key=66933

It is a bilingual document, Russian on the left and Hebrew on the right. I
have already had a response to the request for a Russian translation. I
would also like a translation of the Hebrew part of the document. Should I
re-upload the document and request a Hebrew translation or can someone help
with this using the current upload?

Thank you in anticipation.

Other Hungarian Census Records #hungary

johnebos@...

Hello,

I am trying to locate the file "MOL, DJ(C55)-1821-F1-No. 44² as found on
the ³Other Hungarian Census Record, 1770 - 1850.² I see others have
requested the same type of information and I have logged into the
Hungarian National Archives but am unable to find this file. Is there a
particular way I should be searching?

The record I am looking for is >from Jano, Saros, Hungary >from 1819/20 for
David NEUVIRTH whom I believe to be my 2G Grandfather. Could the problem
now be this document may be located in Slovakia, the present day location
for Janov?

Please respond privately and thanks in advance for your time,

Holocaust Commemoration in Backa Topola (Topolya) June 3 #hungary

There will be a ceremony at the restored Jewish cemetery on June 3 at =
10:30 am followed by an exhibit at the town museum.

The organization of these event was begun by the wonderful Antal Kocsis =
but has now been taken over by the town. Mr Kocsis is a local resident =
who is also responsible for the restoration and fencing of the sizeable =
Jewish cemetery, the building of a Holocaust memorial in the space of =
the former Beit Tahara, several publications about the Jews of the town =
and the uploading of the list of burials to JOWBR.

While large formal organizations involved in cemetery protection in =

what is asked of them, Antal who is not Jewish embodies the slogan =

Was the area of today's western Slovakia considered part of Hungary in 1869? #austria-czech

morav@...

It looks like it switched back and forth. I am particularly interested
in the area north of Bratislava, around the town of Malacky.

If you know please reply. Maybe not to the whole group as this seems
like something not everyone would be interested in.

Thanks,

Philip Moravcik
