Other Hungarian Census Records #hungary

johnebos@...

Hello,

I am trying to locate the file "MOL, DJ(C55)-1821-F1-No. 44² as found on
the ³Other Hungarian Census Record, 1770 - 1850.² I see others have
requested the same type of information and I have logged into the
Hungarian National Archives but am unable to find this file. Is there a
particular way I should be searching?

The record I am looking for is >from Jano, Saros, Hungary >from 1819/20 for
David NEUVIRTH whom I believe to be my 2G Grandfather. Could the problem
now be this document may be located in Slovakia, the present day location
for Janov?

Please respond privately and thanks in advance for your time,

John Epstein

Holocaust Commemoration in Backa Topola (Topolya) June 3 #hungary

cia@...

There will be a ceremony at the restored Jewish cemetery on June 3 at =
10:30 am followed by an exhibit at the town museum.

The organization of these event was begun by the wonderful Antal Kocsis =
but has now been taken over by the town. Mr Kocsis is a local resident =
who is also responsible for the restoration and fencing of the sizeable =
Jewish cemetery, the building of a Holocaust memorial in the space of =
the former Beit Tahara, several publications about the Jews of the town =
and the uploading of the list of burials to JOWBR.

While large formal organizations involved in cemetery protection in =
Eastern and Central Europe take forever to do (or more often not do) =
what is asked of them, Antal who is not Jewish embodies the slogan =
=E2=80=9CJust Do It=E2=80=99. We need to do more to acknowledge and =
honour the work of people like him in preserving the Jewish heritage of =
places where Jews no longer live. =20

I can forward the invitation to the commemoration, with added details, =
to any one who is interested.

Was the area of today's western Slovakia considered part of Hungary in 1869? #austria-czech

morav@...

It looks like it switched back and forth. I am particularly interested
in the area north of Bratislava, around the town of Malacky.

If you know please reply. Maybe not to the whole group as this seems
like something not everyone would be interested in.

Thanks,

Philip Moravcik

visit to the Czech lands.
I have been on the road in France and I want to express both my appreciation

Help with translation for Szatmar death listing #hungary

elisefmiller68@...

After many years of searching, my cousin has found the death date of
our great-aunt's husband, Aron Grosz, in Szatmar: 1904. It was on the
Satu Mare Orthodox cemetery list.

We understand the listing except for the mysterious (to us) phrase, "
Arh. S-M de Stat" at the end of the line. Can anyone tell us what this
means?

Thank you very much! Elise Miller, San Mateo CA
