Yonatan Ben-Ari

My father-in-law, Rabbi Moshe YERUSHALMY was somehow related to a
GLASS family who lived on Shderot Chen in Tel-Aviv. The GLASSs were
also connected to Dr. Yitchak REFAEL (VERFEL) who was a leader the the
Mizrachi party in Israel and was a cabinet minister.

My father-in-law was born in Grieve, near szcuchin and eventually
emmigrated to New York City and made aliya to Israel in 1964.

I would be happy to hear >from anyone who knows our connection to the above.

(Greece) 75th Anniversary of Jewish Deportation from Island of Rhodes #sephardic

Jan Meisels Allen

The Island of Rhodes in the South Aegean, has an area known as "la Juderia"
the Jewish Quarter. It was in the Old Town for 2,300 years until July
23,1944. Jews of Rhodes were noted back in the Maccabean times in the
second century B.C.E. This year was the 75th anniversary of the deportation
to Auschwitz. The original Jews were the Romaniotes who were assimilated
into the Sephardic Jewish customs and language. Moment Magazine has an
article on this. Included in the article is a photograph of a plaque next to
the synagogue Kahal Shalom with the list of names of those who were
deported, such as Ventoiura, Nahamias, Beneviste and many others.

Yizkor books in the Zaglembia region #general

Lance Ackerfeld <lance.ackerfeld@...>

Dear fellow Zaglembia researchers,

A number of years ago, we began the important initiative of translating a
number of Yizkor books of communities in the Zaglembia region that were
decimated during the Holocaust. The Yizkor books that we currently
concentrating our efforts on are:

- Bedzin (Bendin), Poland - Pinkes Bendin (A Memorial to the Jewish
Community of Bendin)

https://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/bedzin/bedzin.html

- Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland - Sefer Kehilat Yehudei Dabrowa Gornicza
ve-hurbana (Book of the Jewish Community of Dabrowa Gornicza and its
Destruction)

https://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/dabrowa/dabrowa.html

The Yizkor books contain unique information and stories regarding the people
and the lifestyle that are no longer and this is the reason I set out to
have them translated. The translations will not only benefit the current
generation but also future generations because, above all, we cannot let the
memory of these communities disappear. It is also our intention to have
these books published, once we have managed to translate them completely - a
further incentive to complete them.

For both of these projects, we are now in the "home stretch". That is to
say, the completion of both these books is in the foreseeable future,
however, in order to accomplish this we do request your financial support to
help cover the professional translation of the books that are being carried
out.

To enable us to pay for the translations, we set up Translations Funds into
which people who have a like interest in seeing these books translated. The
translation funds for these books are listed at:
https://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/v_projectslist.asp?project_cat=23

If you are able to assist in any way, please make a donation to either of
these projects. Please note that for US citizens, donations to these funds
are tax-exempt.

Thanking you in advance,
Lance Ackerfeld

Seeking information regarding Jakob Michael HONIG and his family #general

Joyce Eastman

I have recently received information regarding the death of Jakob Michael
Honig in Kassel, Germany. His death notice stated that he died on 1/12/1915
at the age of 43 (which would mean he was born in 1872) and that he was born
in Brody, Poland to Abraham Josef Honig and Scheindel Wilder (my paternal
great-grandparents). His son Abraham Josef Honig was the person that
recorded his death (it appears that he was named after his grandfather).
The record of death also noted that Jakob Michael's father was a businessman
and was already deceased in 1915, and mentions the wife of Jakob Michael
Honig as Anna Debora (Anna Debora Briefwechsler).

A record of their children's birth was found on JewishGen as follows:
Abraham Josef Honig, born 09/13/1989 in Treysa, Germany; Rosa Honig, born
03/26/1900 in Treysa, Germany; and Pepi Honig born 05/27/1896 also in
Treysa, Germany. I have not been able to find any more records regarding
Jakob Michael Honig's birth and other events in his life (other than his age
at the time of his death as noted above).

I would like to find out more about the life of Jakob Michael Honig as well
as that of his wife, Anna Debora Briefwechsler, and their family. Any
assistance you can provide would be most appreciated.

Ofer Manela

Dear all,

I've seen in some online sources that Rabbi Reuven Halevi Horowitz of
Zarnowiec, was until 1795 the Rabbi of a town called "Guaten" or
"Gutman" in Germany.

I couldn't find this town or any town with a similar name.
Any help regarding the name and the location of this town would be

I have posted ViewMate 74599 which contains part of the birth record of Mandl Izidor who was born in 1881. There was a comment added in 1899 that I can't quite make out. I see the word utoneve (first name) so am assuming a name change but cannot find the new name. Any help would be appreciated.
