Unfortunately, only some years of Jewish vital records of
Chzranow have survived. They are as follows:

Records in the Katowice branch of the Polish State Archives
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Births 1902
Marriages 1883, 1887-88, 1890-93, 1901-02, 1904-05
Deaths 1882-83, 1887, 1897-98, 1900, 1902-03
These records have recently been indexed but funding is
not complete so the data is not yet online. For details on
how you can obtain access to information >from these
records, write to chrzanow@...
Records in the Civil Records Office in the Chrzanow Town Hall
Interpretation of "asiatischer Steppenhengst" (was 'Kristallnacht) #general
Robert Fraser
Dear Experts -
Once again, I bow to the wide-ranging knowledge of the readers of this forum.
Most of you agreed that the expression was indeed derogatory, and coined by the
Nazis to refer to their interpretation of Jews as being undomesticated,
uncivilised, nomadic; believed to be inferior compared to the "superior Aryan
race". So calling somebody an "Asiatischer Steppenhengst" could mean "inferior or
undomesticated idiot", like a wild steppe-dwelling beast or donkey.
The expression was probably used to let the captives know that they were inferior
and worthless.
There's also a theory that Ashkenazi Jews were related to the Khazars of mediaeval
Eurasia.
I wish my late father could have known what he was being called. But on second
thoughts, perhaps not. He had enough to cope with at the time.
NYC death certificate id number #general
Harvey Finberg <hjfinberg@...>
A New Zealand Jewishgenner is looking for the death certificates of her husband's
grandparents. They lived in NYC. Is there a way to determine the certificate
numbers without paying the NYC Health Dept $20. cost just to get the certificate
number? Once she has the number, she will be happy to pay for the actual
certificates.
John Rosenblum died 10 February 1971; Celia Rosenblum died January 19, 1973.Tthey
probably lived in the Bronx or upper Manhattan. I have checked the online
cemeteries listed in the NYJGS directory and have not found the place of burial.
Nor were thee death notices in the New York Times. They are listed in the Bronx
with their son-in-law in the 1940 census.
I have just read a letter on the Lyris list where a person stated that
In Britain, during the early years of World War I, all aliens had to
Register with the police.
Is this correct ? If so where could I find such records for aliens living in
Whitechapel & Mile End Old Town.
Regeczi Hutta, Tokaj, Hungary? #hungary
Hello,
I recently found a birth record of my ancestor, who was registered in the to=
wn of Tolcsva. It says by the comments that her parents are residents of Reg=
eczi Hutta. I tried to search for this town in the JGen Community Database, b=
ut it is not listed there. I also tried google maps, and I can't seem to fin=
d it there either.=20
Does anyone know if there is an alternate name for this town, and where Rege=
Thank you,
Names for groom and town #austria-czech
HOLIJOLI@...
In the Rakovnik book of marriages (1792-1838), ledger 1769, page 5, there
are two listings. I am interested in the second one. I believe the bride
is Theresia KUSSY of Kraschowitz and her father, listed to her right, is
Nathan KUSSY. I know that Theresia KUSSY married Jakob KOHN, but this does
not appear to be the name of the groom. However, I am no expert. Can
anyone tell me the name of the groom as listed, age 30? As full a translation
as possible would be appreciated. I did not sent this in to viewmate
because I believe that going directly to the page would be more helpful. Thank
you to anyone who can help me.
My second question concerns the current name and/or location of a town
that was listed as Foiteles, or Vojtles. Does anyone know where this was or
is and what the current name would be?
Please respond privately.
In connection with Yom Hashoah, the Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Yad Vashem has just posted on its
Facebook page information about the Eichmann trial.  See http://tinyurl.com/cduy42h
On that page, it states:
"With me are 6 million accusers." Gideon Hausner, Chief Prosecuting Attorney, Eichmann trial
The Eichmann trial began in Jerusalem on 11 April 1961
For videos and film about the trial  http://www.yadvashem.org/yv/en/holocaust/eichmann_trial/index.asp
I am biased, but many agree that this is one of the most important trials of the 20th century. It brought out
the full scope of the Holocaust in a very personal way as it is the only trial with witnesses. Gideon
Hausner was a distant relative on my mother's side. He was born in Lviv.  Deborah Lipstadt's book captures
this trial very well.
While this information has been shared in the past at the time of the trial's 50th anniversary, this is the first
