Writing to Slovakian Archives (Bardejov - Presov - Hanusovce) #hungary

I recently traced my SIMON/SUSSMAN family lines back to Topolyhanusfalva,
Saros County which is now Hanusovce nad Topou, Slovakia.

I had very good luck writing to the Nitra Archives on my Catholic BELANSZKY
line They were very quick and they traced back 5 generations of siblings for
a modest research fee (but copies of original source documents were not
provided).

I was going to write to write to the Slovakian Archives. According to Tom
Venetianer's list of addresses, I should write to the Archive at Bardejov for
Saris.

Statny okresny archiv (State District Archives)
Dlhy rad 16085 77 Bardejov

* Presov (district)
Statny oblastny archiv (State District Archives)
Slovenska 40080 01 Presov

(1) Which address should I write to for Hanusovce? Presov or Bardejov?

(2) I have already checked the temple records & 1867 census available >from
LDS FHC. Is the archive likely to have more information on Jewish families?

Any other information or tips on writing to Slovakian archives would be
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Paul Linhardt

New York directory lookup request: John Brazzo Jeweler, 1936 #hungary

Ujfeherto@...

--part1_150.f5bf94.28d2b547_boundary
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

I am trying to figure out the location of a photograph taken in New York
approximately in 1936.

On my web site, there is a picture of my grandmother's aunt (nee Terez
MAHLER) standing in front of her house with her husband Morton:
http://members.aol.com/plinhardt/

(1) The inscription on the back says something about "age 57". >from what I
know about the aunt that would date the picture around 1936. >from the
clothing styles, does that seem right?

(2) Behind grandmother's aunt is a building with a sign painted for "John
Brazzo Jeweler". I'm trying to figure out what borough of New York they
lived in. Anyone with easy access to New York directories around 1936
willing to do a look up on "John Brazzo Jeweler" for me? Are there any
professional organizations I might contact that would have records of
jewelers >from that period?

My ultimate goal is to find Theresa MAHLER's married name. If I can narrow
it down to a single borough, I might be able to find a bride's surname
index.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Lilian,

Thank you for your sensitivity and your prayers.

The apocalyptic events of the last 2 days have only heightened my
appreciation and love for my family. Identifying my ancestors so that I may
know of and honor the lives that made mine possible, is more important to me
than ever before. I feel blessed that I am alive to continue researching
and documenting my heritage, so that I may leave this precious knowledge for
my children.

Thank You,

Phyllis Greene

Rumanian address #general

IsraelP <zach4v6@...>

An old immigration file at the Central Zionist archives contains an
inquiry about someone whose last known address (pre WWII??) is

Cresul Stalin Str.
Piata 23 August No. 10, Apt 10.

There is a handwritten note that this is Rumania.

Is there a city name hiding in ther that I missed?

MHMarx@...

I have been trying to find birth and marriage records for my maternal great
grandparents:
- Samuel VANDSBURGER born 11 Dec 1851 in Prust Kr. Tuchel, West Prussia,
now Pruszcz, Poland
- Susanna GOLDSTEIN born 2 Jun 1857 in Labischin, West Prussia, now
Labiszyn, Poland

I wrote to the Polish State Archives in Bydgoszcy. Their reply stated that
they could not find these documents since "we don't have any records for
Labiszyn and Pruszcz in the county of Tuchola."

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might proceed to a more sucessful
outcome?

Thanks

Dear Genners,

We add our prayers to all of the families that have been directly affected by
yesterdays events. Who would have ever believed that our shores would ever be
breached?

We also wish to express our gratitude to all the Genners who have been
expressing words of comfort and support, living both in and out of the United
States. Your words are much appreciated.

We stand united behind the president and congress. Our 2 flags have been
flying since noon, September 11, 2001, as an expression of our unity.

Internet access problems #lithuania

Ada Greenblatt <ada.Greenblatt@...>

Because the wiring underneath the World Trade Center was a major
telecommunications junction here in NYC, I had been without internet access
for over 48 hours. It just came back up this evening, but I am still
having a very difficult time getting on-line because the line is constantly
busy.

At this time, kindly refrain >from sending me anything other than matters
pertaining specifically to the Kaunas district research group. Please
pardon any delays that may occur in my getting back to you. Due to my
backlog of work and volume of email, if I may be so blunt (Litvak trait?),
I would prefer not to receive any New Year's greetings. It's putting an
undue pressure on me to reciprocate, which I unable to. Thanks in advance
for your understanding.

I was supposed to fly off on vacation this weekend. NOT!
