When I attempted to translate the below message, received this morning, with
an online Polish-English electronic translator (www.poltran.com), it gave me
the following:

You honorable, kind transfers shawls (scales) >from mr. krzysztof, at the
same time it apologizes ktory, has failures of computers >from (with) and
from house not moze sie odezwac.
I'm guessing it's a thank you note for some information I had previously
sent to Krzysztof Nadowski, Gdynia, Poland, in which his friend explains
that he's writing for Krzysztof because Krzysztof has had a computer failure
at his house and thus is unable to send me a message himself. Can someone
who can read Polish please confirm this, though? I'm not always good at
guessing!

which one to get!)

Thank you to the several people who provided (or volunteered to provide)
summary translations of the e-mail I received >from Dr. Zielinski. The
message described a ceremony placing a monument at Hobotlow, just outside
Stryy, where several thousand Jews were murdered. He was also trying to
contact Uriel Zur-Schutzer, head of the Stryj Landsmanschaften in Israel to
give him the news, but did not have his address.

As it turns out I traveled to Stryj last year with a ShtetlSchleppers group,
and we visited Hobotlow. At that time we remarked that a monument of some
type was really needed to memorialize the thousands of people who died
there--but we had no idea that Dr. Zielinski was actually in the process of
having one erected, so this was good news for me and all people connected
with Stryy. And in another piece of good news, I happened to have an
address for Uriel Zur-Schutzer, so Dr. Zielinski will be able to contact
him.

Thanks again to everyone who made this exchange possible!

Dear Sir,

I've obtain your email address via Internet.
I'd like to let you known that on June 10 took place erection of the
symbolic memorial stone on the execution grounds in Holobutow (5 km distance
from Stryj).
This event had an extensive coverage by Polish, Ukrainian and Austrian
media.and currently Jewish media are also preparing articles which will be
published shortly.
Lwow Rabbi took part in stone erection, many Jewish kids >from the Lwow
region
and VIPs >from Poland, Ukraine and Austria (my residence place) and in the
presence of the last Jewish resident of Stryj, Mr. Jozef Feuer.

I am a writer. In 1998 my book "Holobutow" in Polish and German was
published by Krakowskie Wydawnictwo
Edukacyjne ISBN 83-86949-10-4
All printing of my book has been sold, beside the fact that it has been
published in large edition
Following book publishing I have been engaged in the organization efforts of
the erection of the memorial stone in Holobutow, and I have visited
Holobutow several times.

My Father is buried there. He was shot on September 1, 1941 during First
"Aktion" in Stryj

All what happened in Holobutow on June 10, 2001 took place thanks to my
initiative and with the great assistance of the Gentile reporter Mr. Mark
Maldis >from TV Poland. TV Poland has also produced a program dedicated to
events in Holobutow.

If I will be able to obtain address Mr. Uriel Zur-Shitzer, I would write to
him this information.
He visited my place in Vienna two years ago. but I have lost his address and
I have no idea if Uriel is alive and how I can contact him.

I hope that this information will meet with yours and Stryj menschen
approval and satisfaction.

In any event my book and erected stone are only two existing monuments
commemorating the memory of the murdered there Jews of Zydaczow, Stryj,
Morszyn, Bolechow, Skole and other small shtetls of Stryj vicinity. It is
estimated that between 14,000 to 17,000 Jews lost their lives in Holobutow.

Records from Ukraine #galicia

Is there an archive to which I can write for records >from Ukraine? I cannot
seem to locate on the Ukraine SIG web site any instructions for obtaining
records akin to those set forth for the respective countries under the
jurisdiction of Litvak SIG and Jewish Records Indexing - Poland. Is this
because Ukraine will not do searches for records? If it is in fact possible
to request a search for records there, does anyone know to what address I
should write, whether I can write in English, and how much money I need to
send? The particular records I am seeking pertain to four towns: Gertsa,
Stryy, Mukachevo, and Zolochev. Since my knowledge of Ukrainian geography is
poor, I am not even sure to what present-day oblasts (or is it gubernias?)
these towns belong. Any help anyone can provide on this latter issue would
also be much appreciated. I do know that at the time my ancestors lived
there, Gertsa (known then as Hertza) was in Romania; Zolochew (Zloczow) and
Stryy were in Galicia; and Mukachevo (Munkacs) was in Hungary. Should I
actually be writing to Romania, Austria, and Hungary, respectively, for these
records, or is Ukraine the right place?

Thank you very much,
