Zemun, Serbia (Zimony, Hungary) #hungary

viviankahn@...

All,

Ellen Sadove Renck, Coordinator of the IAJGS International Jewish =
Cemetery Project, has come across a information about the Jewish =
community of Zemun, Serbia (formerly Zimony, Hungary) that may be of =
interest. She has a CD that includes the map of a cemetery w. 563 =
burials, maps, and other information about Zemun. The CD has gone to =
Nolan Altman so he can include the burial info in JOWBR. The other =
information would provide someone with a good start for developing a =
ShtetLink website for this community. Please contact me off-list if =
you're interested and I'll put you in touch with Ellen.

Cemetery Plaque Translation Request from Hebrew #hungary

jzeisler@...

Hi,
Back in 2001 I visited the cemetery in Gyongyos and photographed two
plaques inside of what was probably the cemetery office. I recently
found a photograph of one of the plaques, and have posted it on
viewmate. I am hoping that someone can translate it >from Hebrew.

Thank you.

looking for info on Andor Bruck holocaust survivor #hungary

jackie130@...

I wonder whether anyone can help. I am looking for information on
my great-uncle Andor Bruck, who survived the Holocaust and was
definitely in Budapest in 1946.
This is the only information I have on Andor.

His brother Alexander Samuel Bruck (DOB 30.11.1880) born in
Uj Palanka, lived in Vienna >from at least 1922 - 1942.
Their parents were Moritz and Adelheid Bruck.

Any information on this family or advice on how to find further info
would be much appreciated.

Kishinev archives? #romania

sandranudelman@...

I have found multiple records for my family in the Kishinev B/M/D
records through JewishGen. I am wondering whether it is worthwhile to
contact the Kishinev National Archives and to hire a researcher to
find relevant property records, census records, etc. Has anyone had
experience with this? If so, how successful was the search, and do
you have any recommendations for researchers to use? Or can I just
write to the archives to conduct the search for me?

Thanks!

Sandra

Kaunas Family List 1858-1915 - A LitvakSIG Special Project #lithuania

Dorfleiv@...

LitvakSIG is pleased to announce that the Kaunas Family List Project is now
complete. Eighteen files were translated resulting in nearly 23,000 lines
of data. The last of the eighteen files has been added to the Kaunas
Family List site at http://kaunasfamilylist.shutterfly.com/

Finding that files like these exist is just the beginning of a project. It
is the contributors who made it happen and because we were able to afford
two translators, it was possible to complete this project in less than two
years. Without the support of our contributors, the translation of this
list of almost 23,000 lines of data spanning a time frame >from 1858-1915
could not have happened.

The entire project has now been given to the Kaunas District Research
Group . A surname list can be downloaded at http://kaunas.shutterfly.com/
Please scoll to the bottom of the page and select KFL surname list.

from the outset, it was obvious that this was a very important list for
researchers. Quite a few brick walls were breached for those fortunate
enough to find their families listed. The information originally recorded
was gleaned >from all sorts of documents which were presented to
the authorities.

Many links to former shtetls of residence were found as well as details
of extended families. For some, it provided the confirmation that a family
they thought might be theirs did indeed move to Kaunas or left Kaunas for
other places.

Ukraine Archives to Place Looted Property Documents Online #ukraine

FREYAB@...

The folllowing information is >from the current issue of Avotaynu's
"Nu? What's New?" e-zine:

The State Committee on Archives of Ukraine located in Kyiv plans to place
online German records of art, archives, books and other cultural valuables
stolen in Nazi-occupied countries during the Second World War. These are
records of the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg (ERR), one of the main
agencies responsible for looting cultural valuables. The records of the
ERR were scattered after the war and are now to be found in 29 repositories
in nine countries. The collection of ERR records held by Ukraine, seized
by Soviet forces at the end of the war, is the largest in the world.
During the Soviet era they were classified as secret.
