Thanks very much for that explanation, Chuck. So the Ukrainians wouldn't
let the Mormons photograph their archives. I'm actually glad to hear
that because it means there is hope that I could go there and find the
records.

I was afraid that the records had all been lost in fires and assorted
20th century turmoil, like so many of the Bessarabia records. Though I
do of course hope that the Ukrainians will reconsider and give access to
the FHC.

Does anyone know how much it might cost to hire a researcher?

My grandparents #poland

I have been under the misapprehension that my maternal great grandparents
were >from Hungary, as my Mother and Aunt were born in Budapest. I know that
they moved to Bruno in the Czech Republic , as my grandfather started a
branch of the family business there. They were in ladies fashions and I
know that they manufactured and had shops as well.

Recently I was told that , no they were Polish! which put me back to
square one again.

What has added to my problems us that the family name is Neumann . Still ,
they are my Neumanns, so I need help to point me in the right direction ,
to find out where they came >from originally ,
My great Grand parents , were Shimon and Gitle Neumann.
My grand parents were Adolf and Eda Neumann ( nee Stempel )
And their children were Giselle , my mother, and my Aunt Renee.
I have my mothers birth certificate , but I don't know where to find her
parents marriage certificate.

I know that the Stempels were >from Zolynia and Kracov. And I have a lot
of information on them, It's the other side of the family, that is the
problem.

Potential Efrem Zimbalist Family Connection #lithuania

Mark Strauss

My wife's cousin recently died and he left a memoir that described my
wife's Klubock family history >from Lithuania and Boston. In the memoir,
the cousin mentioned that my wire's great-grandmother, Dora Ringle,
(about 1858-1940), married to Joshua Klubock of Boston, was the first
cousin to the violinist, Efrem Zimbalist. I've researched my wife's
family, and discovered that the Ringle family was >from Vilkaviskis,
Lithuania.

Wikipedia shows that Efrem's father was Aron Zimbalist and mother
Maria Litvinoff. I've not found any more ancestry information about
this family and I have never found information on Dora Ringle's
parents. If anyone has genealogical information that might suggest a
connection, I would appreciate hearing >from you.

Birth Records for Snipiskes, a suburb of Vilnius #lithuania

Peggy Freedman <peggyf@...>

The city of Vilnius is surrounded by a number of suburbs including
Snipiskes, Antakalnis, and Naujoji Vilnia. Vital Records for these
suburbs were kept locally in the 19th and early 20th centuries. There
is a good map showing these suburbs at:

http://bit.ly/1aHkSSC

The Vilnius District Research Group has received the translation of the
birth records for Snipiskes for the years 1854 to 1904.

Every name listed in the JGFF for Snipiskes appears on this list.

I have posted a list of surnames found in the Snipiskes birth records here:
