GF not found in Chicago, IL 1920 census (Jacob Gerber) #general

Debbie Skolnik <dskolnik@...>

I know there is always the possibility that someone could be
overlooked during the census-taking opportunity, but I'm having
a hard time thinking that my maternal grandfather, Jacob Gerber,
didn't get counted. There are 5 Jacob Gerbers listed in Chicago,
IL, but the ages and family members' names don't match. :(
Chicago is the only place they ever lived, to tbe best of my
knowledge.

The only index I have easy access to is the one >from Ancestry.com
(which is where I didn't find him) -- what are the chances that if
I trundle down to NARA or a LDS site, that I will find him through
a Soundex search?

If anyone is able to check any other way to look someone up in
the 1920 census index, I would be extraordinarily grateful. I'm
looking for Jacob Gerber, wife Tillie, children Norton and Rose.
Jacob would have been about 35 yrs old, and he was a tailor. (So,
incidentally, are several of the other Jacob Gerbers, which I find
very interesting).

Thanks in advance, and Chag Sameach to all.

Hi,
I'm thrilled to share my genealogy information with the rest of our
family, I want others to continue the joy and meaning if Mishpachah.
During the last eight years we have had at least seven family
Reunions (Seven of which I have organized.). This has made an
impression on my young children and they look forward to meeting
all their new cousins. This year I'm taking a break and they are
extremely disappointed.

I have been giving family history books as Wedding Gifts, so they
can add their branch to the family tree.

I would never dream of charging anyone for any information, but
I also request that it not be sold... By helping your family build
their family tree you are helping them create a sense of family.

Chag Sameach.

I have received several mails indicating that Rav Motl of Kuzmir didn't
have any children, and sure enough, I have goofed big time.

My apologies.

The Kosh I am looking for is indeed the habitation of Rav Heschel,
but he is the son of Rav Chaim Szmuel Horvicz of Checiny, a descendant
of the "Chozeh of Lublin".

I humbly request your help again: Where is "Kosh"?

More AGAD Galician Indices now Online #poland

Willie46@...

Nearly 50,000 more AGAD vital record indices have now been
added to the Jewish Records Indexing - Poland database.
<http://www.jewishgen.org/JRI-PL/jriplweb.htm>. Another
big THANK YOU to Michael Tobias for creating and updating
the JRI-Poland database, which now has nearly 1.6 million
index entries including nearly 200,000 AGAD index entries.

These indices were created directly >from the records housed
at the AGAD Archives in Warsaw. Indices for the Galician
Administrative District towns of Buczacz, Gliniany, Gwozdziec,
Jaryczow Nowy, Komarno, Mielnica, Okopy, Sambor, Sasow,
Stanislawow, Stratyn, Swirz, Tarnopol, Wielkie Oczy, Winniki,
and Zawalow have now been added to the database. All these
towns are currently in Ukraine except Wielkie Oczy, which is
in Poland. More information on each town is provided below.

If your ancestral town was near one of the above towns (see
coordinates below), your town's records could have been
registered in one of these towns. The towns included in this
project are all Administrative District and Subdistrict towns.
The Jewish Community in each of these towns was required
by law to collect the vital records for all the towns that were
part of the Subdistrict. The indices for the above Administrative
towns include reference to the town in which the vital event
occurred. Search the database for your surname and set
"Province" to "Ukraine." This will result in only AGAD record
indices being displayed in your search results.

The indices do not have all the genealogical relevant data. You
can order the actual record >from the AGAD Archives using the
Order Form that is only a few clicks away >from your search
results.

All of the vital records available at AGAD are now indexed and
online.
This includes:
Births: 1870-1874, 1876, 1878, 1880-1899

Although most of the above Administrative town indexing
projects have been funded and are now available to researchers,
there are many years of records that will become available in
the coming years as all the records in the register books
become over 100 years old (due to Poland's strict privacy laws,
all records 100 years old or less are not available to the public
and, therefore, are not available for indexing). In order to index
these newly available records, more contributions are needed.

You can help ensure the indexing of your Galician town's records
as they become available. Please consider a contribution to the
AGAD project.

I am trying to locate descendants of Mrs. Malke Banner. Malke Banner arrived
at Ellis Island on Sept. 26, 1900 with her daughters Reisel (age 13) and
Gittel (age 1). Malke was a 30-year old widow when she arrived. She
immigrated >from Stanislawow, Poland. According to my mother Sophie, now aged

her daughters when she was a small child. Somehow the families lost touch.
If you are a descendent of Reisel or Gittel Banner, please contact me.

Dear Barbara,

I think that your answer is at the beginning of your letter....

"As you can see, this list, made available to JewishGen by the United
States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) in Washingtron, D.C.,
contains much personal information."
If this is being made available by the USHMM - then it is already public
domain and can be made available on the internet. I am sure that their team
of lawyers has already researched the topic >from top to bottom! The only
thing that falls under the privacy issue (under FOIA) would be medical
information. Everything else, as you have it listed, is ok to publish.

You
can order the actual record >from the AGAD Archives using the
Order Form that is only a few clicks away >from your search
results.

Information on contributing is available at
<http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/agad/agadcontrib.htm>.

The AGAD record indices contained in the JRI-Poland database
would not be accessible to researchers without our host,
JewishGen. In addition to your contribution to the JRI-Poland
AGAD Project that supports indexing of the records, we hope
you will also give to JewishGen to help defray the cost of
maintaining these records. An easily accessible contribution
form is available at
<http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/AGAD.html>.
