significance of large segments in small shared DNA #dna

Milton Koch

I have come across several DNA "matches" where I find that there may
be a large segment of 42.7 cM in a total shared segments of 49.2 cM.
Another example is 58.6 cM out of 64.8 cM.
What is the significance and/or true relationship in such total small
amount of shared DNA?

Meaning of names Bronislava, Iona and Ioinya and Yakov #general

Marilyn Levinson

Dear fellow researchers
I received an email >from a man I believe is related to me. We both have Soifer
relatives >from Teofipol. The names he gave me in his family with which I am not
familiar are Bronislava, Iona, and Ioinya. Bronislava was born around 1900, and I
believe is a Russian name. Is there a Hebrew or Yiddish equivalent name? Also the
name Iona, I am wondering if it is the same name as Yona Soifer of Teofipol who is
listed in the Central database of Holocaust victims-Yad Vashem archives. Can
anyone tell me the meaning of the names Iona and Yona. Next, Ioinya, is listed as a
persecuted person in the Yad Vashem database. He is a descendant of my great
grand uncle. Is there any relationship between the name Iona or Yona and Ioinya?
Finally, the man who wrote me, his first name is Yakov. One of my
great grand uncles was named Yosif. Is Yakov a diminutive Yiddish name for the
Hebrew Yosif? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Query re: Polish citizenship #lodz #poland

oritarfa@...

Hello,

This is my first time writing to the forum, so I hope it works. Is
there no way to access the forum directly online?

My paternal grandparents were both Polish Holocaust survivors. Now I'm
interested in seeing if I could claim Polish citizenship. My
grandfather was born and grew up in Lodz. It seems I need to find his
birth certificate as a start. Anyone know how I could go about doing
this? A lawyer I consulted charges about $500 with no guarantees.

Looking forward to some advice on this process.

Sept. 12 1933 Decree #lithuania

Scott Familant <familant@...>

Is anyone familiar with an act/ decree that issued on Sept. 12, 1933,
which apparently recognized Jewish residents of Lithuania as Lithuanian
citizens?

Is there a place on the web where I can learn more about this?

Thx!

Subj: ViewMate translation request – Polish/Russian #poland

ingrid rockberger

I've posted two vital records in Polish and one in Russian for which I
would be very grateful for translations. They are on ViewMate at the
following addresses:

This record in Polish is the marriage record of my paternal great
grandparents.
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM66415

This record in Polish is the birth record of my paternal great grandfather.
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM66416

This one -- in Russian -- is hopefully the birth record of my
husband's grandfather.
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM66428

If translators don't have time to translate the full record,
please translate information of genealogical interest:
names, dates, towns/villages.

Please respond via the form provided in the ViewMate application.

Thank you very much.
