Searching: GOMPERT - San Mateo County, CA Marriages #general

Kalman Appel <kaappel@...>

Dear JewGenners,

I need help >from anyone with access to marriage records index >from
San Mateo County (California) to check the names of 2 sisters. The
marriages would have taken place after 1987. Names in question
are Lauren GOMPERT and Toni GOMPERT. I am trying to find
their married names.

If these names mean anything to anyone, or if you can help me with a
check of the marriage records index, please reply privately. I am not
in the USA, so this makes the search difficult for me.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Re: More Records Uncovered in Minsk Archive #belarus

Clifford Karchmer <ckarchmer@...>

David:

I received your e-mail about the Avotaynu article and the Minsk archive.
I have a question about the two places named Liady. Is one of them
Lida--the Belarus town somewhat near Voronova and Radun??

Thanks,

Cliff Karchmer

MODERATOR'S NOTE: Mr. Soshnikov spelled the town name as Liadny in the
"Avotaynu" article. I could not find this spelling in "Where Once We
Walked" by Sack and Mokotoff. I did find a Lyady (Liady, Lyadi) 38 km
ESE of Minsk (5347/2805). WOWW has Lida 146 km WSW of Minsk (5353/2518).
I think we are talking about at least two different places, perhaps three,
if the spelling in the article is correct. WOWW is an excellent reference
book to help locate your shtetls. It has the lat. and long. so you can
find the towns on a map or use the JewishGen Shtetlseeker.

Rabbi Marmorstein's comments #hungary

Georg Gaugusch <e9526666@...>

I'll send this letter to the group too, because it might be of general
interest.

Dear Rabbi Marmorstein,=20

please note that there are several versions of Wachstein's article about
the jews in Preszburg, the last (and best) one is in Hugo Gold's book about
the Judengemeinde in Preszburg. All corrections he knew you'll find in his
Randbemerkungen. You'll find it in 11th volume of the Quellen und
Forschungen zur Geschichte der Juden in Deutsch-=D6sterreich, the same
volume includes his work about the jewish enterprises in the Viennese
Merkantilgericht (>from 1780 to 1830). If you need excerpts >from J=FCdisches
Archiv (1927-1929), Archiv f. jued. Familienforschung, Zeitschrift zur
jued. Familienforschung (Czellitzer), Zeitschrift zur Geschichte der Juden
in der Tschechoslowakei or the Excerpts by Hanns Jaeger-Sunstenau, who did
the 6th volume of the Schluessel just write to me. Copies are no problem.
Hanns Jaeger-Sunstenau, who is still alive, but very old, did a very famous
dissertation (in 1950) about nobilitated jewish families in Austria. He
used a lot of literature.

Best wishes >from Vienna to New York

Georg Gaugusch, Vienna

None of these works, neither Taglicht's, Schwarz's or Wachstein's are
complete. They just used the persons they were interested in. This is
understandable, because the Merkantilgericht and
Verlassenschaftsabhandlungen are a quite difficult matter to do research
in. So whan you can't find in these books, don't worry.

Name transformations #hungary

Marian Brown <mbrown@...>

Dear All,

HELP! I have been pouring over LDS films >from Slovakia and have found
many people who are my ancestors. Because of dates, names of children,
number of children, etc., I think I have discovered people whose names
have several variations. Following are my questions:

1. Is their a logical or linquistic reason that a given name can be
Jetti, Yetti, Jute (u with oomlat), and Etta -- all the same person?

2. Could Sigmond (or Zsigmond) also be Gische or Sische?

3. What is the connection between Feige, Fani, Taube and Tobe?

4. Is it possible that the surname Abrahamovitz could transform itself
into Szendrovits? Another time it is written Izenowitz!

5. Could Scheindel and Sandl be the same?

Thanks for the help!
