FELDMAN surname #general

dmumphre@...

Hey Genners,

I think I posted this quite some time ago, but thought that since I've
picked it up again, I'd repost. This is a list of names/places for my
FELDMAN surname, and in following emails will be the other surnames I am
searching.

Joseph - born in Hungary, died in Scranton, PA
married: Leba Friedman - b. Hungary, d. in PA

Their Children:

William - b. Hungary, d. Louisiana (married Flora Ascher)
David L. - b. PA, d. Louisiana (married Katie Jacobs)
Jacob - b. Hungary, d. Louisiana?? (married Birdie ??)
Edward - b. ??, d. Texas (married Leah ??)
Benjamin - b. ??, d. PA (married Reva Diner)
Ida - b. PA, d. Louisiana (married Bernard Manhiem)
Mary - b. Hungary, d. PA (married Benjamin Klein)
Esther - b. PA, d. Texas or Louisiana (married Leo/Louis Loevy)
Hannah - b. PA, d. Texas (married Harry Jacobs)
Lena - b. Hungary, d. PA (married Adam Jacobs)
Sarah - b. PA, d. PA (died as teenager)
Sander - b. PA, d. PA (married Lizzie ??)

NOTE: As far as I know, none of the "Jacobs" that the children married
were related. Matter of fact, I know for a fact, that Katie Jacobs wasnt
related to either Harry or Adam and because of the age difference between
Lena and Sarah, I dont see how their spouses were related either.

Any connections anywhere???

ATT: Boston area genealogists. Need Driving directions to Mass. Registry of Vital Records #general

Jacqueline Fineblit <jackief@...>

I plan to visit the Massachusetts Registry of Vital Records for research. I
have been told that the Bureau has relocated to 150 Mt. Vernon, St.,
Dorchester. I am unfamiliar with that area and need good driving directions
to get there. I understand that the traffic patterns are difficult because
of the Big Dig. Is there anyway of skirting the Boston area to get to the
Registry. I called twice for directions (long distance >from Florida) was
put on hold for over ten minutes, then disconnected. Maps of Boston do no
good right now as the construction has changed so much!

Any other useful suggestions on how to handle research here? I need the
vital records for most of my mother's and father's family who all lived in
Massachusetts, mostly around the Boston area.

Thanks for any help >from the Mass. genealogists!!

Cemetery Records Online #general

Batya Olsen <batya@...>

Hello all,

A friend sent me the following URL:

http://www.interment.net/

It's a small but searchable database of burial records and tombstone
inscriptions. There are online records >from over 2,000 cemeteries all
over the world. That said, a search for Cohen showed only 17 entries!
However if one of those 17 is your long lost mystery person, it's
definitely worth the effort.

Researching:

MANFELD/MANFIELD/MANSFIELD Postavy, Belarus -> Sterling, Illinois;
MATZKIN Vidzy, Belarus & anywhere

Lithuania SIG #Lithuania Success with the ALD! #lithuania

Marjorie Rosenfeld <marjorierosenfeld@...>

Since joining JewishGen a couple of years ago, I've made great strides in
finding out about family. For instance, I can now trace my maternal
grandfather's lineage all the way back to the middle of the 18th century.
Unfortunately, I've made much less progress in the case of my maternal
grandmother, Annie Udelson, and her father, Isaac Udelson.

Though searching JewishGen's All-Lithuania Database for the surname
UDELSON/YUDELSON/JUDELSON has usually been a "ho-hum" exercise, a couple of
days ago (inspired by Judy Baston's message re updates to the ALD), I
decided to give it another try. Bingo! What should I find but
"IUDELZON Itsyk," owner of three pieces of real estate in 1903.

This isn't my great grandfather Isaac Udelson, who immigrated to America
long before 1903. Too, the ALD's "Itsyk Iudelzon" was >from a town called
Akmene, not "Naishtat," where we were told our Udelson relatives came from.
And therein lies a mystery. There were 3 shtetls in Lithuania known as
"Naishtat" ("New Town"). Some checking with the Shtetl Seeker revealed that Akmene lies within 35-65 miles of all of these: Kudirkos Naumiestis,
Zemaiciu Naumiestis, and Naujamiestis Panevyzas.

So do I know which "Naishtat" the family came from? No, not yet. But I've
heard of another Udelson family >from Kudirkos Naumiestis and one also from
the Naujamiestis Panevyzas area. Folks, I'm zeroing in! Sooner or later,
I'll know all--and it will be thanks to the ALD. When those Russian
Revision List records >from every place in Lithuania get translated, the ALD
will have the listing for my great grandfather's household and then I'll
really know it all (or know it "ald")!

As for Itsyk Iudelzon >from Akmene, he's family and I know it in MY blood!
He's bound to have been at least a cousin of Great Grandfather Isaac
Udelson's. Even though Itsyk owned only 3 properties in that big piece of
real estate known as Lithuania, I still wouldn't turn my nose up.

Hey, isn't this a great project? And what about all those wonderful
volunteers?!

Best--
