Re: FURST family from Pecs, Baranya #hungary

David & Diana Laufer <laufer@...>

As there are some Furst s on a remote branch of my wife's family tree, I could not resist responding to Patricia Weisshaus's
message, even though I am unable to answer her specific question.

According to this tree a Therese LOWY married a Moriz FURST
They had 2 children: Leo, Helene, who married a Dr. Lipa

Moriz FURST subsequently married Marie LOWY, Therese's sister.
I do not know the circumstances of the end of the first marriage; either Therese died or divorced.
Moriz and Marie had 3 children: Mathilde, Robert and Emil
Mathilde married someone with the title VON FURST.
This could possibly be the marriage to a baron that Patricia mentioned.

Another sister of Therese and Marie, namely Emilie LOWY married a (Kaiser Rab. ?) Samuel KOHNBERGER.
They had 6 children; 5 of them girls. The chidren were

Hermine married ??? SCHILLER
Irene married ??? TIRING or TIWING
Melanie married ??? HERMAN
Helene married ??? MISLAP
Martha married ??? STIASSNY
Max KOHNBERGER

I mention this because of similarity, but not identical, to Patricia's reference to 6 sisters.

Regretfully, the chart showing this tree does not give any locations or dates of the above mentioned.
The closest I can advise relates to Therese MELLER who was a first cousin of the above LOWYs, and is my wife's ggrandmother
She was born in Raab (Gyor ?) on 15 August 1849 daughter of Markus MELLER and Franziska nee LOWY.

I realise that the above information does not tie in with that of Patricia's, but due to a couple of similarities I felt the need
to respond.

Re: WINTNER and?or GELDMAN #hungary

Eloedfamily@...

Hello,

this may not be much help, but...

the only Wintner name I ran across in my lifetime, was Aurel Wintner. I am
not sure if he was a distant family member or only a friend of my parents.

He would have met my father probably in the Budapest Fasor Luth. Highschool,
the school that Neumann and Wiegner etc. attended. Aurel Wintner was very
involved in astronomy and became one of the well known names among Hungarian
Mathematicians. I have not found much more on him, and like I said, don't even know
if he was close friend or relative. Probably High-school classmate of my
father's, and in that case of Eugene Wiegner, the Nobel Laurate.

Let me know, if this was any help.

Re: Bisnovetz or Visnovetz #ukraine

Where Once We Walked lists Biskovitse, present name, Biskovichi, Ukr.,
Jewish prewar population of 38; 66 miles WSW of L'viv.

Also, Vishnevets, Ukr. Jewish prewar pop. 2,825; 87 km SSW of Rivne.

Neither of these is particularly close to Odessa; does either feel right to
you?

Re: Searching deportations from Antwerp, Belgium #france

In FrenchSig dated yesterday, I answered a question with an error. I
hadn't read correctly the subject of the message, and I confused two
"Klarsfeld's books", two "Klarsfeld memorial". Sandra meant the
"Memorial to the Jews Deported >from Belgium 1942-44" and my answer
concerned the "Memorial to the Jews deported >from France 1942-1944".
I'm sorry for that error.
