Jan Meisels Allen

Five German companies announced on April 2 they would each donate one
million Euros (collectively 5millions Euros or $5.6 million US dollars) to
the Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem. The
donations are for the expansion of the archives collection to the new
Heritage Collections Center which is scheduled to open in 2021. The five
companies are: Daimler, Deutsche Bahn, Deutsche Bank, Volkswagen and soccer
club Borussia Dortmund. The companies said their effort is "a clear sign of
our solidarity with the victims of the Holocaust and as our responsibility,
past and future, in the fight against racism and anti-Semitism."

Bessarabia SIG, update for the month of March 2019 #general

Yefim Kogan

Dear researchers,

Here is an update for the Bessarabia SIG projects for the month of March
2019. See also at What's New at Bessarabia SIG website.
There are a number of projects we made a good progress of, like Revision
Lists, Miriam W.'s Archival material, but this time I am only going to
updates at the Kishinev Jewish Cemetery.
Kishinev was a main town in Bessarabia, and later in the republic, part
of the Soviet Union, and now it is a capital of independent state
Republic of Moldova. The cemetery we are talking about is one of the
largest in the region, but this is counting that about half of the
cemetery was destroyed, and a park was built on the territory. Also
when some smaller cemeteries were destroyed during 60-70s, a number of
people moved the graves of their loved once to Kishinev Jewish cemetery.
In may family was such a case in 1970s, when my uncle moved grave of his
mother >from Kaushany Jewish cemetery (cemetery was destroyed in 1970s)
to Kishinev.

Jewish Cemeteries. Updates:

Completed photographing and indexing sector 4 in Kishinev Jewish
Cemetery and sent to JOWBR 1517 burial records with 1371 images and 33
images of Unknown graves can be viewed at Bessarabia SIG website at
Kishinev Jewish Cemetery Report
(https://www.jewishgen.org/Bessarabia/files/cemetery/Kishinev/KishinevJewishCemeteryReport.pdf)
or directly at Kishinev Jewish Cemetery Unknown graves
(https://www.jewishgen.org/bessarabia/files/cemetery/Kishinev/KishinevJewishUnknown.asp).

I want to add that we received a set of photos >from Sector 5 (about
3000!), and part >from sector 3. Planning to get all photos >from 3, 6
and 7 this year, and remaining 1, 8 and 9 will be photographed next
spring.

Hello all,
I would greatly appreciate translation of brief Yiddish notes written
on the back of an old photo found by my cousin. The firstphoto is of his
grandmother (my gg aunt), and it appears that the note was written to
two of her children.

We are not sure who is in the second photo, or to whom the message was
written.

Searching for contact information for the children of Chaskiel LAUER #unitedkingdom

Judith Elam

Chaskiel LAUER was the last person to see my maternal grandmother and little
aunty alive. They were all deported on 21 January 1942 >from Leipzig to
Riga. Chaskiel was 14 at the time. I have received documents >from an
archive in Hanover, in which my mother states that in 1950 she met Chaskiel,
who told her exactly what happened to my grandmother and aunt. My mother
states that her little sister Etti Lea MENDZIGURSKY (then 7 years old) was
"separated >from her mother and killed first". I assume this must refer to
after they were loaded on to the train and during the transit, because they
never did arrive at Riga. It also conflicts with what my mother told me
years ago, that her mother and little sister had frozen to death. But my
mother had also filed a POT on Yad Vashem stating that little Etti Lea had
been used for medical experiments. The fact is, only Chaskiel LAUER knew
exactly what had happened to them, because he appears to have witnessed
their deaths.

Chaskiel LAUER survived the Holocaust, ending up in London and then Israel,
where he died in Netanya in 1993. I have found Stoke Newington birth
records for his children, Nigel H. LAUER (born 1963), Sarah M. LAUER (born
1957) and Gary Jonathan LAUER (born 1960). I have found a tree on Geni.com
and Ancestry.com and messaged the managers. I have found his wife Vivienne
COUSIN LAUER, and their children on Facebook, and messaged them. They are
not active FB users.

Please can someone find a personal email address or phone number for any of
these 3 children, who I believe all live in England. Maybe, just maybe,
their father talked to them about my grandmother and little aunty. And if I
knew how Chaskiel had survived and what he had witnessed, I might be able to
finally have an answer as to what happened to my grandmother and aunt. My
mother tried to find out all her life, so now it is my turn to take on this
task. Please respond privately.
