Hello all,

All of the older generations of my Jewish family are deceased and none were forthcoming with any information anyway. I was able to order my ggrandmother and ggrandfather's death certificate which lists the names of their parents (unknown maiden names for their mother's) but no one seems to know where they came >from in Russia. I was able to pull Bolekhov and Satanov off of WWI draft applications for probable cousins but that doesn't mean that they (my relatives) were born or lived there. I have gone through passenger lists which also do not list their towns. I belong to Ancestry and have searched for the past two years without success. I looked on Jewish Gen for anything without success. I have looked at Avotaynu without finding anything. The marriage license does not name their town nor the maiden names of their respective mother's. Many of my grandmother's siblings did not have children and none of the cousins know anything. The family is not listed on any of the family trees nor do any of the hundreds of people I have contacted with the same last name know anything. I have taken the DNA test w/ success as did my brother. I also checked Vad Yashem w/ success.

What should I be looking for other than surname or town on Jewish Gen? The family trees had no links.

Is there anything left to do? I cannot imagine there would be any documents in Russia/Ukraine- and as I am not sure where they were >from I wouldn't even know where to order.

I am a bit frustrated. There are no state dept records and nothing else that I can think of.

Any suggestions?

Re: List of London Synagogues #unitedkingdom

Wegner, Peter

Kingsbury is in NW London, NW9 to be precise, and Edgware
(note spelling) is in Middlesex. When I was a youngster,
my parents lived in the 'last' road in Kingsbury,
London, NW9. The next road was in Edgware, Middlesex.
My father used to joke that, if he wanted a breath of
'country air', all he needed to do was lean over the back
fence of the garden.

Many thanks to Henry for sending in those corrections.

I grew up in Wembley and was familiar with Kingsbury
(both the synagogue and the swimming pool) -- and also with Edgware,
where I went to school (NLCS) in the 1940s -- back in the days when
schools stills insisted that kids learn to spell correctly!
I am particularly pleased with the JCR-UK's acknowlEDGment of
the correct spelling of EDGware -- both words famous for
lacking an "e" between those two syllables.

In the marriage record of his son it states "son of Joseph HaLevi"
