PAMPEL and SOLOMONS #general

malcolm katz <malkikatz9361@...>

As a follow on the SOLOMONS children in London that
were married and have father PAMPEL are as follows.
Michael Solomon(Michal ben Anshel Levi Pampel) married
Hannah Newfolt(Hana bat Israel Neufelt) 13/11/1805.

Henry Solomons(Hirsh ben Anshel Levi Pampel) married
Polly Moses 21/2/1803.

David Solomons(David ben Anshel Levi) married Rosetta
Abrahams 10/9/1794 and marries again
David Solomons(David ben Anshel the Levi) married
Elizabeth Joshua 28/8/1825.

Abigail Solomon(Edel bat Anshel Levi) married Marks
Israel 26/8/1798 and marries again
Abigail Solomon(Edel bat Asher Anshel the Levi)
married Abraham Davis 14/2/1822.
Marks Israel first husband was >from Groningan in the
Netherlands.

The first two are for sure brothers and the other
three i suspect by Hebrew naming to be also siblings,I
would welcome any feedback >from descendants of all
other then Michael as we have a long tree for him.
All were married in the Great Synagogue in London and
its Ashkenasi and Michaels bride name Neufelt would
appear to be German in origin.
Again many thanks for all the reply's to many to
answer but all appreciated.
Im wondering with the Pampel name of Amsterdam as well
as the Hebrew names dont match,Does anyone know if
that family were Levites if not that would clinch no
link to me as my ones were and are listed as such in
the future.
Also the above names not one has a traditional middle
Dutch name at all which is also unusual if of Dutch
descent in the late 1700's.

JOWBR announcement #galicia

Joyce Field

Israel Pickholz is critical of my recent announcement on additions
to JOWBR. Israel wrote, "I think it would have been a more useful
announcement had it told us what cemeteries had been added. That
would probably not have made the announcement longer than say some
of the monthly yizkor book announcements."

In fact, there were several hundred additions to JOWBR and the list
would have been much too long to publish in a static list to all
JewishGen Digests. Anyone interested in knowing the cemeteries that
are online can check the cemetery inventory list at
http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/Cemetery/tree/CemList.htm.
There are 1,810 cemeteries and landsmanschaft plots listed there.

I do hope that Israel is not similarly critical of the length of
Yizkor Book Project announcements.

PAMPERL in 1793 Bohemia {was Pampel Dutch Name} #general

Celia Male <celiamale@...>

Malcolm Katz asked about his PAMPEL family >from Amsterdam and London and talked
about replies he had received about the possible derivation >from the acronym
PAM for "peruchmacher" or the Dutch spelling equivalent [Wigmaker].

I remembered we had a discussion on this a few years ago and you can find links
to the PAM family name >from Amsterdam in our message archives. You will have to
filter out the writers of postings called "Pam" but that is not too hard!
Our message archives are always an indispensible port of call in any research.

Whether the PAMPEL is another form PAM [wigmaker], I would not hazard to guess
as there is another possible route to the name. There is a PAMPERL PAMPERLE
family living in the Pilsner Kreis, Bohemia in the 1700s. Bohemian Jews did
move to Amsterdam so perhaps PAMPEL in Amsterdam were descended >from early
Bohemian PAMPERL/PAMPERLE or alternatively the route to the family name was
similar.

Isack PAMPERLE [sic] and Moyses PAMPERL [sic] lived in Neustadtl in the late
1700s and were probably related. There is another Isack PAMPERL [sic] aged 28,
a servant, living in Hostaun at the same time, but it is most interesting to
note that he too was >from Neustadtl - so no doubt there was a little Bohemian
PAMPERL clan in this era. How they got the name PAMPERL could probably be
resolved by studying early records held in Prague. The name is also written as
POMPERLE on the Familiant lists of the Pilsner Kreis.
