current cemetery telephone number #general

Paul & Irene Berman <ikpjb@...>

I tried calling the single combined telephone number listed on a Jewish
Cemeteries in the New York Area internet site for Brooklyn cemeteries Bet
Olam, B'nai Jeshurun, Shaarei Tfila and Shearith Israel - all at
718-277-6255 - only to receive the message that the number is not in use.
Does anyone know what the current telephone number is?

For those interested in Ylakiai/Yelok in Telsai region Kaunas:

A few years ago my grandmother and my uncles visited the village, I have just
got my hands on the video which takes in the village square, the cemetary and
the village hall.

In the village hall the official pulls out a newspaper article which has names
of some of the families of the 300 Jews that lived there up until 1941.
Apparently there were 35 Jewish shops in the village and 7 Lithuanian. I have
grabbed images >from the video of as much of the newspaper article as I can, and
it is mostly legible, although I don't speak or read Lithuanian some of the
names appear to be

Lozarskis, Leibis, Iserkis, Berkis, Garbarism, Arkis, Jouskis, Iaja, Zalmonas,
Sapyram Steptinas, Joselevicius (Joselis), Mikis, Mejerklu, Mendelis ir
Benijosius Dulanai, Motkis, Kacleikis, Kalman, Lozarkats

There is a paragraph accompanying each of the names, and I have salvaged as much
as I can >from the video. The composite image I have created is here, if anyone
can post a translation back to the list that would be great.

http://www.benforman.co.uk/famtree/ylakiai_paper.jpg

When I get the chance I will go through the cemetary video and see what I can
grab >from that.

Hope this is useful to some of you

All best

Frankfurt records #general

Arline and Sidney Sachs

The cemetery records of the cemetery that was used between 1824 and 1924
are quite complete. The cemetery is in reasonably good shape and it is
fairly easy to find a grave. The man who kept the records at the old
cemetery died, but I believe the complete records are now at new (from
1924 on) Jewish cemetery. Check the cemetery project for the address.

Names beginning with A and B were indexed.

I found at the Lirama database a file of Samuel SHUGARMAN,

Re: The Jewish family DROZ name #general

Joseph Laden

I just spoke with my mother, Edna Droz Laden, about the Droz name. Her father
Shmuel Yits-hak(Sam) was first listed in the Roman alphabet that we use in the
US as Smul Druz on the passenger list of the SS Compania in 1906. There were
other Drozes in Pittsburgh who had arrived a few years earlier.

Cousin Louie Droz >from Pittsburgh who was very close to the family influenced
Sam and his brothers Hyman and Joe to use the spelling "Droz." May the memory of
our ancestors be for a blessing.

The users of Jewishgen can almost always be counted on to provide
answers to questions both esoteric and mundane. I thank all of you
who responded to my question about my grandmother's name. I learned
that the name in its various iterations, including Genie and Gen, was
very popular in the late 1800s.
There were too many responses for me to thank you individually.

I suggest that you consider local companies that specialize in digital
printing projects.
Most copy shops can print a one page powerpoint nearly any size and in full
colour. Powerpoint posters are used in scientific poster sessions on
congresses everywhere nowadays. Ask any university student that does
research.

Setting up a genealogical tree in large powerpoint is quite possible.
It seems not to be a specific Jewish genealogical issue, however.
