A few years back, I remember seeing scans of a couple of booklets for
meetings of the Nesvizh Landschaftmen group. Now all I can find is
lists taken >from the booklets. Does anyone know where I can find the scans?

Thanks,

I'm trying to track down the family of my great great grandfather's
sister, Leah LEVIN (or LEVINE).

She was born somewhere in the Russian Empire on March 22, 1889 and
arrived in Montreal either in 1909 or 1910. Before then, she may have
been in Russia or possibly in the US.

She definitely lived in Montreal with her brother, Abraham, and his
wife (Cherka) and their children (Joshua, Agnes, Mollie, Minnie,
Hattie and Jessie) in 1911 as she was listed as living with them on
the 1911 Montreal Census.

Any information about what ever happened to her would be appreciated!

JCR-UK SIG #UnitedKingdom Change in surname between census and death registration #unitedkingdom

oldandintheway9@...

Dear All,

My great grandfather (c.1833-1916) was variously Harris (but I am presuming originally Hersch or similar) GOULD (1871-1911 - UK census), Harris LEVY GOULD (his wife's 1901 headstone) and Harris LEVY (GRO death registration). His wife Rebecca also has the GOULD surname on the census and LEVY on her GRO death registration. Their children seem to have gone only by the surname GOULD.

Other than possible co-incidental clerical error, would anyone care to comment as to possible reasons for the change in the surname at the time of death.

I do not know what Harris' surname was when he lived in Poland (or what town/city he came from) and again would welcome suggestions. As marriage details would include Rebecca, I have tried (without success) to search for this type of record on JRI-PL. All I know about his wife is that her maiden surname was supposedly RIFKA; I appreciate this is essentially the same as Rebecca, but this is the maiden surname on the UK birth certificate of her son.

Bottom line - I am trying to find out their pre-UK names and places of origin.

I am grateful for comments,

Chris GOULD/London-UK
Searching: ASHENFARB (Warsaw); BERGBAUM (Lodz, Kielce); GOULD, LEVY-GOULD; KORENBLIT, KOOSEL, SALISBURY, SOLSBERG, ZALSBERG

Prof. A. Ch. F. Weizmann wrote I am researching Cecil ROTH .... but I
cannot yet to find out his birth date. About his brother Leo Roth I cannot
find out neither his birth nor death date. Only the years. Perhaps some of
you could send to me the birth date of Cecil and the birth and death date
of Leo?"

Cecil Roth was born on 5 March 1899 in Dalston, London. He was the
youngest of four sons - Leon was the third son. Cecil died in Jerusalem on
21 June 1970.

Leon was born on March 31 1896 in London and died in Wellington, NZ on
1 April 1963.

Like Judith Romney Wegner, I also knew Cecil Roth whilst I was an
undergraduate at Oxford and visited his Oxford home in the 1950s on a
number of occasions when I was invited to tea.

Just a reminder - please use meaningful subject lines so we can find your
mails easily in an archive search. The original subject "Query" - is of no
use to anyone!

Dana Dimitriu

Hello all,

I need help with a form filled in by Rudolf NEUMAN, captain in
the Polish Army - he served during WWII in the Polish Division
under French and then British Command. The language is Polish and
I think it describes how he made his way >from Poland to France in
1939. I split the form in two parts, to make it bigger and better
readable.

Part 1:

Part 2:
http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=13241

I would need a translation into either German or English or
Romanian. The files will be in Viewmate for 7 days.

Thank you all in advance for your help!
