Am searching for leads for my paternal grandmother's family.
Name was originally Kardonsky, but was shortened to Karden in the US.
Although all came thru NY (circa 1905-1912), most settled in Detroit,
Michigan. My grandmother came back to NY and settled in the Bronx. Other
sisters and brothers stayed in Detroit included Joseph, Julius & Bessie
(oldest). Information I have says they came >from town of Vinnitze (there are
spelling variations). Any leads welcomed.

My maternal grandparents were Maram (Miriam) Vugman (became Wagner) daughter of Hershel Vugman and Rifka, and Arum Wolf (Velvel) Annopolsky son of Shraga Feivish (Feivel) and Shaindel?. Maram's siblings were Chaia Sora Yeshua, twins Avrum and Yankel, Meyer and Malka. Velvel had a sister Manya who's 1st husband Israel Gold was a violinist with the Moscow Symphony. They all lived in Zhitomir. Chaia Sora might lived in Chernichov when married. I think Velvel had another sister, Dvera who lived in Kiev. Please respond if any of these names sound familiar.

I am also fascinated by where immigrant Jews ended up. Many Ukrainian Jews
also immigrated to St. Louis around the turn of the century. In my
grandfather's case, (who immigrated later around 1920) I think this had to
do with the assistance of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. >from what I can
tell >from family documents, this organization helped East European Jews
secure the necessary travel papers.

Does anyone else know about this organization and its role in aiding
immigration to the US? Also, does anyone know anything more about the
Ukrainian Jewish communities in St. Louis circa 1890-1930.

-Tante Beckman's husband, Borice, was born c. 1869 somewhere in Kamenets

here by my great grandparents?). I don't know much more than this, but could
