Trade translation please

On a registration document the trade appears to be Traktora although it is
difficult to read and could be Faktora. I would appreciate any ideas of his
trade please.

Baltiimore death look-up WASSERMAN (RAPPOPORT, SCHAFER) #general

DVORAHSV@...

Anyone going to the Maryland state archives and willing to look up a
death for me (I'll return the favor in Massachusetts!) sometime between
1911 and 1920? My paternal ggm Sara WASSERMAN, born 1864 or 65 in what
is now Moldova, as Sara (Sura) RAP(P)OPORT, married first to Itzik
SHAFIR (SCHAFER) and they divorced in Kishinev in 1890 when my
grandfather, Jacob David SCHAFER was 5 years old. She then married
Solomon WASSERMAN >from Focsani/Odobesti in Romania.

The 1910 census lists the family, Solomon and Sara WASSERMAN and his
step-son Jacob SCHAFER, living in the Boston area. But no trace of Sara
or husband in the 1920 census anywhere, nor in Massachusetts death
records that I can find. I know the family had lived in Baltimore at
some point between 1911 and 1920, I think she may have died there. My
father, born in 1911, never mentioned a grandmother.

Any info on this family appreciated, and a Baltimore vital records
search *greatly* appreciated :-) Or even directions, a web-site or form
to fill out for Maryland death lookups.

Thanks for your assistance,
Deborah SCHAFER

Thank you for your suggestion.

I did look at the 1923 and 1928 or 29 online Polish business directory. It
seems there are more than 20 banks on Piotrkowska street and I can't tell
which is on the corner of Platz Wolnosc (Freedom Square).

Why don't you search the on line directories for the 20s that have been
discussed here?

I am trying to track down the name of the bank in Lodz that stood at
Piotrkowska street and Platz Wolnosc (Freedom Square) right before the
war
and start of the Lodz Ghetto.
Does anyone know this information in this SIG? If not, how do I find the
name of this bank?

Thanks,

Nicki Chodnoff

Hi,

I know (according to the Given Names database and Message Archives)that the
association of given names Mark/Mordekhai was quite "classical" but I haven't
found any recorded link between Meir and Mark as a combination of given names.
Do any of you have examples of such a combination?
Thanks

This is a photo of my grandfather, Elias Weidenfeld. It was taken in
Galicia, and he was born in 1872. If someone could look at the photo and
give me any details, and about when it may have been taken, I would be most
appreciative. He came to the US in 1909, so it was taken before then.

Thanks very much,

I will soon be publishing my family's genealogy so it will be searchable by

Am I on the right track here? As Yehuda said, I want to facilitate finding
ancestors to others searching online, as I am the first to ever catalogue
the family tree.
Names and family relations are also sensitive personal information.
Also, keep in mind that there are other people making list of jews, and
you don't want to give them a hand. You should definitely avoid
publishing any information (even names) of living people who haven't
explicitly given their permission.

As for the recently dead, a good rule of thumb is to consider the
privacy rules that different countries have for personal information.
Privacy laws are usually passed for a good reason... E.g. Lithuania has
a new law under which archive records are only released after 100 years.
Under Swedish laws, privacy considerations for paper archives lapse
after 70 years. Etc. In sensitive issues like these it is better to err
on the conservative side. If you exclude data on dead people >from the
last, lets say, seventy years you will still have a good chance that
Google will turn up something useful when your relative search for their
ancestors while providing a decent "cordon sanitaire" of privacy for the
living.

The same considerations should apply to uploading family trees to FTJP.

Of course, if you restrict access only to family members, you can make
information available more readily.
