Dear Martha,
I would be very interested in a meeting at the conference. I will not be
staying at the hotel so I hope it will not be in the late evening. (my
daughter lives in NYC so I will be staying with her)

I would like to know how many of you intend to come to a meeting of
the Courland Research Group at the IAJGS Conference in New York in
August? This is not a meal, but a working meeting to try to move
things along further. On the agenda would be [not necessarily in this
order]:

1. Where we now stand and where we are heading

2. Projects you would like to see undertaken

3. Projects presently in the pipeline

4. Any other business you would like to discuss.

Please respond as soon as possible so that I know if we will have
enough interest for a meeting.

Martha,

I'll be at the conference, and could come to such a meeting.

I have been meaning to ask Hanus for a long time - I
have Auguste GRAB on my WOTTITZ family tree marrying
Robert FISCHER {Wiener Magistrat March 4, 1913}.
Auguste was born Nov. 18 1888 in Dauba, Bohemia.

Robert FISCHER's mother was Ernestine WOTTITZ born 24
Sept. 1856 in Pressburg, the sister of my
gt-grandfather Gustav WOTTITZ, and Robert's father was
David FISCHER born 4 April 1843 in Nikolsburg.

Unfortunately, I know nothing more about the FISCHER
family as I have never made contact with any of them,
wherever they might be.

David FISCHER and Ernestine WOTTITZ had 5 children:

Else Aug 7 1879
Olga 30 June 1881
Robert 30 June 1885
Paul Nov 8 1886
Grethe April 24 1888

Grethe {nee FISCHER} PRUGGER came to England - I can
see her in "Moving Here":
http://www.movinghere.org.uk/
and the reason I found her was that my grandmother,
Ida {nee WOTTITZ} KERNER, who was Grethe's
first-cousin, has her listed in her tiny little
address book of the late 1930s as Grethe PRUGGER
[FISCHER].

And that sadly is all I know about this branch
of my WOTTITZ family.

Hi,

SPIRO is a very common name in rabbinical circles. You would be well
advised to elaborate more on the immediate ancestry of your relative,
where they were born and when they lived. In my own family tree there
were many rabbis by the name of SPIRA, offspring of R' Hersh Mylech
SPIRA of Dynow, Galicia (1783 - 1841), also known as the Bnei
Yissoschur.

Ukraine Holocaust Memorials in New York and New Jersey #ukraine

Greetings all,
This is my first posting to your list.
Some of you might be interested in visiting my website, as it does have some material of interest to Ukraine researchers. If you visit my Cemetery Project (accessible through my virtual museum's Site Map page), you will find web pages that display several Holocaust memorials >from cemeteries in New York and New Jersey. For now, there are pages for memorials associated with Burshtyn, Ostropol, Tolstoye and Turiysk.

In my "Postcards >from Home" exhibition, I have family photographs (not my family) >from Buczacz, Czernowitz, Drohobycz, Kamenets-Podolskiy and Odessa. More family photos >from E. Europe are always welcome on my site.

I also have, within the confines of my Cemetery Project, over sixty maps of overall cemetery grounds in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Florida and S. California, so you might like to visit this page and see what maps I do have, so that you may be better prepared for your next visit to one of these cemeteries. There is also a Cemetery Directory which lists contact info for many of the cemeteries in metro New York and New Jersey.

I also have a small unique surnames list for an Ostropol society plot on Long Island. More unique surname lists for plots associated with Ukrainian towns/cities will be created in the future. I hope each of you spend some time and have a good look at what my web site, a virtual (Internet only) museum of Jewish family history, has to offer. You can get the best overview by looking carefully through my museum's Site Map page. The URL for my site is listed under by name below.

IAJGS

For planning purposes, I'd like to get a better idea of who and how many
Latvia SIGgers will be attending the IAJGS conference in NYC this coming
summer. We will be having a luncheon and two meetings to better meet the
needs of the SIG. Suggestions are welcomed regarding business issues and
genealogy topics you'd like to discuss and/or present at any of the SIG
venues. If you would like to present something that you think would be of
interest to the attendees please contact me. Siggers would like to hear
about interesting genealogy finds, accounts of recent visits to Latvia,
research tips and trips, etc., so don't be shy - become an active
participant and add value to your Latvia SIG experience.

Website

Thanks to the efforts of Sarah Krein, our new webmaster, the Latvia SIG
website is being updated and improved. You can now download many Latvia SIG
newsletters that have only been available in hard copy previously. We are
trying to make all newsletters printed >from January 1996 until one year
prior to the current issue available to download. Paid members, of course,
will continue to receive the latest newsletters. More upgrades in style and
content are being planned.

Dave Howard is still recovering >from extensive hand surgery, but promises to
