Finding some family information: GENSTIEN #general

Matthew Jay

Hi Guys,

See if anyone can help me find more information! All I know is that My
Great Grandparents name is Leon and Anna GENSTIEN. I know more about
Leon. They lived in Camden, NJ in 1920 thanks to the Census info. They
had 3 kids Adaline, Regina (my Grandmother) and Joseph.

I found Leon's Ship records he came to the US >from Bremen on the H H Meier. He
said he was >from Oesterreich, Austria born around 1873. Came to the US in
1893. My Grandparents have been dead for years and my Grandmother never really
spoke about her parents they both died when she was young!

Missing LEVENTHAL OR LAVENTHAL and relatives KRIMM, FELDMAN, etc. #general

Harriet Weidenbaum

When my grandfather Aaron Leventhal came to the USA in 1903 he arrived
about the same time as several of his siblings who were: Sam, Max and
Sarah. I recall >from my childhood that there was one other sibling,
possibly a sister who lived on the west coast.

I would like to hear >from anyone who might know more about Aaron's
extended family.

Appreciatively,

I have some ancestors >from Skvira, Russia. The name of the town could be
misspelled or an older or newer spelling of it. The family name had several
different versions. Wixnenko, Vikhnenko, and Viknenko were three of the
ones that I know of. There was a Russian spelling of the name too. It was
Bnxhehko. If anyone has any information on this family I'd be interested.
I know that the occupation was they were a family of candy makers.

Dear All,

Many thanks to Bob, Fredrick, Joe, Peter, Judy and Howard for their
responses.

I now appreciate that the extra results >from the search simply point to
individuals resident at the same building/house, whom may or not be related;
and without the existence of the relevant vital records, the truth may never
be known ... Having said that, I notice that one person living in the same
house as my gg'grandfather, David TZAUSMER, is Ovsei son of Leizer KAGAN,
whose name appears to be on the FTJP! It may or not turn out to be the same
person, but I have written to the JG member who submitted this name, and
perhaps the jigsaw will match!

Thank you all for your help. Joyaa

I can provide the answer to Joyaa's question as to why other surnames
appear along with an exact search of a surname. However, only additional
research can possibly provide an answer as to whether the other surnames
are
related or not. Marriage records are usually a good source that will
provide
answers. However, this is an 1816 Palanga revision list and the Palanga
vital
records prior to 1922 no longer exist. // SNIP ... // I doubt
seriously if
obtaining copies of the original records >from the archive will provide any
additional information.

Schreft or Szryft family #poland

Carol Rombro Rider

I don't believe you will hear >from many who could help you unless
you help us first.

What was your father's name? Who was he named for? What time period are
we speaking about? How many siblings did he have? Male? Female? Were
they all killed in the Holocaust or did any survive? Were any married
with children?

What did the family do for a living? If there is nothing else you know
at all about the family, then state that also.

If you want responses that will help you, please clarify something
other than a surname and a town.

Hello all--can anyone possibly explain the following scenario--
my grandmother travelled back and forth >from Galicia to Leeds
England --she is listed in Hamburg and U.K. incoming databases
in Ancestry.com but only >from Galicia to Leeds not the other
way--

SECOND PART---she married in Leeds and settled in N.Y--over a
period of 10 years she made several trips back and forth >from
N.Y to Leeds --there are documents for her trips both ways but
there is no record of her having a passport---It is possible that
she did have a passport and the record is lost or she did not
need a passport to travel back and forth--This is what i am curious
about--the time period involved is 1906-1915--

Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated--

Hello the translation of Mrs. Govor is quite exact. The surname is spelled
in Russian "Predmezky', rather than Predmetsky, both could not be found in
the Russian web.

Student Names in Elementary and Jewish Schools in Lodz #lodz #poland

Diane & Arthur Stupay <dastupay@...>

I am researching the lives of my cousins: Theodor and Eugenia Stupaj.
They were born in 1931 and 1934, respectively in Lodz. Their parents
lived on Piotrkowska Street, 123, Lodz, and they went to school in the
neighborhood.

Tragically, they were killed in the Warsaw Ghetto roundup.

Has anyone uncovered any information on Jewish or Polish
schools In Lodz that may contain any school records?

I would welcome any information.

Rubin and Sarah ALPERT #general

John Shuman <John@...>

I'm looking for information about the family of Rubin and Sore/Sarah ALPERT.

Rubin married Sore SHUMACH >from Slonim in Lodz in 1901. They had 2 sons
Marks/Max (b Lodz, Poland 1902) and Barnett (b London, England 1906/7).

Rubin emigrated to New York in 1908 and was joined by Sarah and the boys 2
years later. He seems to have worked as a printer and ended up with his own
company Alpert Press in Brooklyn. It's possible but not definite that the
younger son Barnett became a psychiatrist in New York.

If anyone knows anything about the family I'd be very interested to hear
