Jacques MEYER from Goersdorf or Mitchdorf, Bas-Rhin #general

Dottie Miller

I was in contact with a man in France who was searching online for descendants
of mutual 17th C. ancestors >from Goersdorf. We found each other when he was
posting on the French website, genealoj.org, looking for informtion about his
ancestors >from Goersdorf. He wrote specifically that his diret ancestor Jacques
MEYER was the son of the same couple >from whom my direct ancestor came. At that
time 4 years ago, I had posted incorrect data-- my France-to-US immigrant
had changed her first name and confused her birth date with her next older
brother, Jacques MEYER, born Aug. 2, 1827, in Goersdorf, so my potential
French cousin had reasonable doubts about our descending >from the same MEYER
family. With the help of genami.org members, I finally had my data straight
and confirmed, just at the moment I got word that my potential cousin had died.
He had only given me part of his family tree, starting with Jacques MEYER who
he had listed as being born in Mitchdorf in April, not in Goersdorf; the two
villages are so close that they merged in 1973.

Recently, I found my deceased contact's daughter and have exchanged e-mails
with her. She doesn't have any of her father's genealogy research or any general
knowledge of it. But right after the first e-mails between us, I found on
geneanet.org a detailed MEYER family tree that again placed this man's branch
of MEYERs squarely on someone else's tree through Jacques MEYER >from Mitchdorf.
I verified that data only to the point of finding that Jacques' marriage document
online with his parents' names, not my ancestors', and married to the woman my
potential MEYER cousin had given me on his truncated tree. I've asked the
geneanet poster to tell me in detail when, how, and in what form he got his
Jacques MEYER data >from my potential cousin. I'm thinking the online tree is the
result of research earlier than what he was doing in 2007.

Clearly there were 2 different Jacques MEYERs born close to each other in time
and space. There has to be some reason why the MEYER descendant was searching for
Goersdorf MEYERs and thought that his Jacques MEYER was a son of my ggg
grandparents.

Can any of you help me resolve which tree my potential cousin belongs on?

Dottie J. Miller
San Antonio, TX

Brian Lehman <blrrcn@...>

Hello,
I am researching my ancestor, Morris SILVERSTEIN, common name with many
variants, the family and records found says he was born in Russia @1882 and
emigrated @ 1904.
Never found a passenger manifest or naturalization record,I have his
marriage record-1909 and the 1910,20,30 census's and draft records.
Those records say he was born in Poland/Russia.
I have just found his brother Max's Canadian Border crossing
record-1914, which says Max was born in Varsha, Russia.
I am having trouble finding Varsha.
Has anybody heard of Varsha, where is it?
Thank you for your assistance.
