Searching JACOBSONS in Lithuania #lithuania

Rebecca Hauer <beccahauer@...>

I'm wondering if someone can help me trace my family back to
Lithuania. My ggrandfather Barnet (Dov Ber) Jacobson, born in 1873,
was the youngest of 13 children, born in the Kovno area. His parents
were Natan Pesah and Lena. He and five siblings emigrated (separately)
to the US. I haven't been successful in identifying his immigration
record - he came over between 1889 and 1892, very likely through NY.

I think we have his brother's immigration record, under last name
Jankelson (Chaim Jankelson, 27 May 1884). Another sibling's
immigration records mentions Ariogala, and another Raseiniai. I
suspect Natan Pesah Jacobson would have died in the 1890s, probably
the latter half of the decade.

Can anyone offer suggestions on where to look to find any records on
Natan Pesah and Lena, and their 13 children (born 1855-1873) in
Lithuania?

Thank you,

Rebecca Hauer

SCHOEN and PLONSKY in Israel? #general

Matthew Kessler

I'm searching for first cousins of my grandfather Albert SCHOEN. His
father Max SCHOEN was the 2nd of 6 children born to Morris SCHOEN and
Annie LOEW SCHOEN in New York.

Max's sister Bella married Philip PLONSKY. They had 2 daughters (confirmed
by the 1940 US Census and living in Crown Heights, Brooklyn) named Diana
and Julia. Today they would both be around 90 years old. No one in my
immediate family seems to have kept in touch with or know where they ended
up except for a story that either Diana or her daughter visited the US >from
Israel in the 1960's.

Bella, Phil, and Max all died in the '50's and Albert in 2002. I have visited
where Bella and Phil are buried, and when I went last year, there were stones
on Phil's grave but not Bella's (they are a few rows away >from one another).
I do not know the married names for Diana nor Julia.

Shalom Hana.

You can use the following site, which however requires to be fed in Hebrew.

I tried on my surname and found all the relevant phones.

There is also an English site, but it is not that successful - i could
not find myself there.

Dear Researcher, I am Antonella Tiburzi >from Italy and I am doing a

now I have collected many interviews, testimonies, documents and
pictures but I often miss the names of the Brodian Jews who perished
in the Mass Murders Operations. Does anyone has documentations,
testimonies or else about it ??

I thank you for the help and I catch the chance to thank you for all

Re: Are my husband and I related? #dna

When I did my family tree I was surprised to find that my mother`s parents
were first cousins! With one of them coming >from a Russian Jewish family
line, and the other >from an old Sephardic family that came through England
in the 1500`s and settled in Virginia in the 1600`s. And then back just a
couple of generations on the Sephardic side, that several times second
cousins were married as well.

I know that in one of these Sephardic families, the Mendes line, that there
were even nieces marrying Uncles, as well as first and second cousins
marrying. In the 'secret Jewish' Converso families like the Mendes family
and many others, the intermarrying was perhaps partially to keep the secret
of their actual status as 'Secret Jews' form being discovered.

.... I administer six Ashkenazi FTDNA kits on both sides of my
family (seven, including my own, but since I now have both of my parents, I
tend to ignore that one). We each have 2500-2900 matches, and about 10% of
them match ALL kits.

The numbers I've seen are closer to 500,000-1M Jews throughout the first
half of the 1000's. 25,000 seems awfully low.

Well, I know I'm not alone. Thank you to everyone who responded to my
questions about inconsistent reporting of maiden names. I received some very
good ideas which in turn gave me new possiblities for research. I am sorry I
do not have the time to respond individually to everyone who wrote.
