Regarding research, you can accomplish more at home with your computer
than you can doing research in Lithuania. Go to
www.litvaksig.org/contribute
and contribute $100 (good for 5 years) designated for the Ukmerge
district.

Once you become a member, you will see a lot of records for Kavarskas
as well as for the entire district.

US Voter Registration Records On-Line ---Free Access---- & Some Google Info #general

Sal & Ellen Barbieri <elsal@...>

I found FL & OH voter records by Googling names in quotation marks to get
DOB. I went to Florida Voter Records & it said you need to submit your DOB
to access your status. I thought it was a flaw on their website that I could
access by Googling a name. Went back today & found: As of 31 Jan 2015, a
privately owned genealogy website [unnnamed] has voter registration records
for CO, CT, DE, MI, OH, OK & RI using purchased copies of FL voter lists
which are public information. Use at your own risk, no warranty. This is a
new great resource for us genealogy sleuths.

http://flvoters.com/by_name/index_pages/d.html
If this doesn't work just put name in quotation marks +"florida voter"
You can click "Individual Detail Page" to see their address & year of
registration. Address can verify couple or relatives living at same place.

I've been Googling names on my family trees hoping to fill in the blanks.
Suggest you open * everything *.
I had 3 females b. after 1980 & the Fort Walton Beach Florida HS site had
their birthday, married names, spouses names, & if they had children. I then
got their DOB & husband's DOB >from FL voter registration.

Goggling a cousin of my husband b. 1911, a name I had never heard of, Del
Cogliano, came up. I would never have opened it before but I did. Relative of
his 1st wife who died years ago did a tree, every wedding photo 1911-2012
was there, kids, grandkids, grt-grandkids, photo of triplets b. 2012. Loads
of group photos. All BMD dates there. Never know where you will find family
info.

Have found good info on Face Book pages & profiles. Finding not just kids
but grandparents are on this. Takes time to go through all the data but a
lot is there. Check people who reply to them, some will be relatives. I go
back & forth between Google, Steve Morse - birthdays & related persons & phone
books to verify I have right person. Thank you, Steve Morse, you have made
my day over and over again!

Re: FINKELSTEIN Canada orphan immigrants ca 1923 #general

Aubrey Jacobus <aajacobus@...>

In tracing a cousin of my wife I found that he had been abandoned as
a small child by his father after the death of his mother.
I found that this Jewish child was fostered by a Christian family
later came into the care of a Christian Mission and at the age of 17
was under the auspices of the Salvation Army sent to Canada in 1922
to work on farms. I found another Jewish boy was with him.

There was then a policy of repopulating Canada by orphaned youths
from the UK.
After a great deal of research I discovered that this cousin
married a Christian lady and died childless in Canada in 1987.
The other lad was named FINKELSTEIN arrived 1-Jul-1923
SS Montrose into Quebec

Re: What differences are there in history of Jews in Ukraine vs Russia? #ukraine

davidnsandler@...

Hi Carolyn, there was no Ukraine in 1900. Ukraine became independent
briefly after 1918 for a few years, until it was incorporated into the
new Soviet Union. Family was correct, they were subjects of Nicholas 2,
Czar of all the Russias. As for what life was like for Jews in Imperial
Russia, there are numerous books covering the period 1772-1918, and Jews
ran the gamut of all types and persuasions. By 1900 their general
standard of living had deteriorated and most lived in poverty in the
Pale. There were exceptions though, some Jews were wealthy merchants
and industrialists, others spoke German or Russian at home rather than
Yiddish. All modern scholars agree that the picture painted by Fiddler
showed only a part of the Jewish experience, which was much more varied.

Good luck, Dave Sandler

Searching for SCHAELER and BERLINER and WOLFFING families #germany

Susan Edel

My great great grandmother Karoline nee SCHAELLER was born in 1821 or
1823 in Schwanfeld, and was married to Isaak BERLINER. I believe she had a
sister Rosa/Rosina born 12.8.1819 (married to Isidor WOLFFING)and a brother
Isaak Moses born 20.5.1817.

They were maybe the children of Moses Salomon and Marianne SCHAELLER. I
believe Karolina and Isaak Berliner married in 1842 in Schwanfeld and
Karolina died in 1894 in Wurzburg. Rosa/Rosina died in 1885 also
possibly in Wurzburg. I am looking for information about my family
and so far am coming up with a brick wall. The archives in Wurzburg
cannot help, only if I come in Person!
Does anyone know anything about these families or give me some clues as to
whom to turn for help.

Best wishes >from Israel,
