Kleinberg from Galicia and Metz, France #galicia

Milton Koch

My PGGF was born in Sadowa, Galicia, in 1829. He died in Luxembourg in
1912, and was buried in Metz, France.

There are several KLEINBERG who are buried in the Metz cemetery, the
latest being Armand KLEINBERG -1970. There also is a grave of Michel
KLEINBERG, age 1, buried in 1959.

I would like to learn more about this Kleinberg family to determine if
there is any relation to my PGGF.

Thank you very much.

Re: First Name Bernat #general

Vivian Kahn <vivian@...>

Bernat is a very common given name for Hungarian Jewish men. It is a version of
Bernard. Probably somewhat more common in areas closer to Austria that are now in
Czech and Slovak republics but also found in Maramaros and other areas now in
Sub-Carpathia.

Has someone ever met the given name BERNAT ? Is it a Czech given name

What Yiddish or Hebrew name? #general

Barbara Sloan <bj1friends@...>

My great-grandmother, who lived in what is now Belarus, is referred to
as "Ida" in family records. I'm guessing that this may have been an
Americanized version of her name. If so, what is her likely Yiddish or Hebrew name?

Jewish access to the city #poland #warsaw

YaleZuss@...

It is my understanding that Jews without prior connection to the city
weren't allowed to move into Warsaw in the years after Poland became
independent. Despite this, my great uncle, Shaya (Yishaya) Kremer, was able to move
there, >from Ukraine, and establish a jewelry store. I have no indication
that he, and thus my family, had any "prior connection" to the city. If my
understanding is correct, why might he have been able to move there?

Note: Uncle Shaya and his whole family were Holocaust victims so there are
no descendants to answer my questions.
