Hi
Not sure about your query, but I have Kaplan in my tree and I believe there were from Minsk or the next village love. One of my Mendelson ancestors married Emma Kaplan and lived in Brooklyn New York.

My gg-gf was Isaac Leib STEIN (rendered SHTEIN back in Europe).  He came over in 1920 from Kuznica, Poland at the age of 80.  I've traced more than 600 descendants from his six daughters, but I know little about his family background other than the names of his parents (Tanchum and Rayzl) and his two wives (Bashe and my gg-gm Sarah).  He probably came from the town of Przytyk and moved to Kuznica afterwards.  If anybody can find additional information, I would be thrilled.

Search for evidence of Chevra Mishnayos pre 1872

Benjamin First

Hello,

I recently discovered that Chevra Mishna/ Mishna Society that learnt
one chapter a day of Mishnayos came into existence in Manchester UK in
around March 1872. The society finished the 6 orders of Mishnayos
every 18 months and would have a siyum celebration. The society
continued in its existence until at least 1903 when it made its 22nd
Siyum.
Does anyone know of any evidence of any equivalent Mishna Societies
that may have existed anywhere in the Jewish world before 1872? I
would like to attempt to find the origins of this idea.

Many Thanks

I found my grandfather, but his name was inexact as known
to us today. His first name seems to be the name used
on Naturalization papers and used when signing official forms
until the late 1930s.

The middle name soon became his first name and the first, his second.
Jacob Saul became Saul Jacob and later he used Saul J.

His birth date also changed on these forms, until now I have
heard of only 2 dates, both in 1901, now I
have a date from 1902.

I know this is my grandfather since both his spouse and
address are correct.

Preserve the 2020 US Census for the Future!

jeremy frankel

Dear Genners,

Today is March 1st. In one month's time we will all be participating in the 2020 United States Census. As genealogists we spend an awful lot of time seeking out information and records about our family. Now is a chance for you to actually "create" a record.

After you have filled out the census, and before you send. it back to the Census Bureau, make sure that you preserve a copy for the future genealogist in your family. Furthermore, get the word out to your parents, siblings, cousins, anyone you can think of, and ask them (politely) if they will save you a copy. Naturally you need to contact them BEFORE April 1st.

If you don't do this, well, as we know all too well, it will get tossed into the bowels of the Department of Commerce and be lost to history for the next seventy-two years.

Don’t let this happen on our watch!

Sincerely

Jeremy

(Poland) NumisBids List of Bids with Names of Issuer #poland

Jan Meisels Allen

Stanley Diamond shared with me a link to NumisBids which is a monetary auction site. What is so interesting is on the bid they list the name of the issuer. It is being listed here only because of the issuers’ names which may have some genealogical relevance.  The lot showing is from the 1860’s at least in most part. Be careful you don’t end up bidding on an item unless you want to purchase it! See:  https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=sale&sid=3703&cid=113653

I have no more information about monetary auction sites or why they would include the issuer’sname.

Hi Gail,

I am very sorry for the delayed reply.  I'm going to email you as well.  I've had a couple things pop up that needed my attention, so been a bit sidetracked from the family tree building.

FYI:  Pesa Appel / Bessie Appel lived until 1973.  Her birth year is listed as 1902 in Tomaszow but that is a "projection" since we've never found a birth certificate.  Only what my mother listed on the death certificate.

So if we can link Pesa Appel to Judko or Moszko Appel or the Appel Family, we'd have the data we needed!

There is a book (I can’t recall the title) about Jewish gangsters of the 30's. Its main premise, if I remember it right, was that Jewish gangsters literally broke the back of the German Bund who was openly pro-Nazis.

Sarah asked how to see the date of the draft registration.  To see the date you should look at the back of the card.  You do this on Ancestry by clicking on the arrow on the right side of the image indicating to go to the next image.  This will also show height, weight, complexion, other physical characteristics for identification such as scars.

There are two sides to the WWII Draft cards.  The date signed is on the second side.  Use the arrow.

Stein

Stuart Kaufer

Searching for relatives of my GF Samuel Stein who was born in Kiralyhaza and died in Chicago in March, 1957.  I know he had a sister Sara (Sadie) who lived in Hawley PA with her husband, last name Kerner.  They had no children and are both dead.
Do not know if the real last name is Stein or abbreviated when they emigrated?   I do not know if they left relatives behind in Kiralyhaza when they emigrated in early 1900's.   Thank you.

Searching for the relationship between Frida Kaufer Blonder who died in 1909 and my Great Grandfather Salomon Kaufer who died in 1919.  All lived in Chicago.  I know all about Frida's husband and children on the Blonder side but cannot figure out the relationship between Frida and my GGF, were they siblings?   Thanks

I noticed the other day that I could see the young men's WWII draft cards.  But I have not been able to see the date on the WWII draft registration cards.  I would be very appreciative if someone could tell me where to look for it. (just which line or corner).
