Re: age of majority in Hungary in 1938? #hungary

Ava Forking

Age of majority was 24. My father had to wait for his 24th birthday in order to marry my mother, because his father did not give consent. He became 24 in October 27, 1939 and got married November 12

I found a record on JewishGen, and when I clicked through, I found an image here:

http://www.lvva-raduraksti.lv/en/menu/lv/7/ig/7/ie/3411/book/28664.html

And I can't see any way to download it.  Is there a trick to it?

Thanks,
Lisa

Re: UNSURE IF THESE ARE NAMES ! Leiser, Breine #names

Leiser/Leisor/Lazar is male.
My Lazar was a Leo/Leon.
I believe Breine is the equivalent of Bruche. My Bruche was a Bertha.

Leiser/Leizer is a male name. It’s a short form of Eliezer. But he could have used any name in the “new world."

Cerne and Breine/Bryna are female names. No equivilants. My secular name is Barbara, but my religious name is Breindel (a diminutive of Brina. But I, my cousin Bina, and another cousin Ruth all have the religious name Breindel.

There are apparently many towns so small or currently abandoned that they cannot currently be located. A relative of mine was supposedly from Kolpuki and and another from Komasic, towns supposedly in the vicinity of Velizh in the Vitebsk guberniya, but I have been unable to find them. Kolpuki does not seem like a far stretch from your Koltenon.

Pamela,

I once saw a NYC death cert for someone who "died at sea."

Have you checked the NYC death records?

Sherri Bobish

Reinier,

Have you searched at JRI Poland database?
https://www.jri-poland.org/jriplweb.htm

I searched for surname Wurzel and town name Tarnow.  I got about 200 hits.  You may find vital records for family members.

Translating Yiddish #translation #yiddish

Marilyn Weinman

Hello,

I'm in receipt of a letter that was written by the supposed brother ( Josef) of my maternal GF whose name was Max Aronowski/Aronovsky/Aronowitz, and it's written in a mix of Yiddish and English....it starts in Yiddish, transfers to English, back to Yiddish, and ends in English. I'd love to know what the Yiddish says to see of it helps me connect any dots !
Is there anyone on this great site that can translate for me ?
Thanks, and Be well

age of majority in #hungary in 1938? #hungary

tom

in trying to decipher the meaning of a newspaper advertisement of an estate auction, i came across a list of the heirs.  4 of the children are listed as married, and include the names of their spouses.  and then there are 5 more, listed as “underage”.

what would have been the age of majority in hungary in 1938?

On www.geneanet.org I found a family tree, in which Louis LILIENTHAL (Minden May 9, 1882-) was mentioned, who was submitted by Guy Sternberg.

Re: 2020 US Census - further thoughts #general

I have long been concerned with the thought  that all of the historical documents which historians have used to bring us biographies of long gone men and woman are no longer being created.
Where are the letters? Could so many of the important historical books have been written without access to troves of letters?
I have no confidence that whatever is stored in the cloud or in some archive will be available 50, 75, 100 years from now.
