Dear H-Sig,
 
I am searching for the source material for this record.  All the other entries on the page give an LDS Film number, but a few, like these, only say Presov in that column.  I have browsed the Conscriptio Judaerum. 1848 in FamilySearch and the records for Eperjes (Presov) within, but haven’t found this record of my GG grandparents’ household.  Any help locating the original records would be greatly appreciated!

When I was trying to find information regarding my relatives who went through Rivesaltes I found that Eve Blum (eve.line.blum@...) was quite helpful. Obviously her availability, or ability to answer your question, may be impacted by the current situation but it would be worth a try....at least for a start.

I reached out to Congregation Beth Jacob, Phoenixville.  Below are the email responses.  Nothing on Feingolds.  The Weiss family I am familiar with settled in nearby Pottstown (10 miles from Phoenixville) where I grew up.  The Schwartz-Weiss clan (Hungarian Jews) arrived there around 1890.   I have a lot of information about that Weiss family.   By the way, is your cousin related to the Weiss family of Triangle Shoe Company?

I cannot remember that name. No Feingolds buried in our cemetery. 

 

There are Weiss family in Pottstown- Sydney & Alvin Weiss. Sydney married Joanie Weiss, who is no longer a member of Shule.   

 

We had a Martin Weiss who was a member of our Shule. They owned a small store next to the Colonial Theater. He passed many years ago. They had a daughter Erica Weiss, who would be in her mid- 80's if she is still alive.

 

I will ask my sister if she remembers the Feingold  family .

Anyway, do we have Feingolds in Congregation B’nai Jacob History?  I looked through Dan Baer’s stuff that I used for the Centennial book but while I saw references to Weisses in the early history, I didn’t see Feingolds.  But I’m thinking that I hear “Feingold” during Yizkor.  (Pity—I was just at CBJ  for the grocery box delivery today…I would have looked at the memorial plaques had I gotten the below email earlier…)

Naming a Shtetl in a Family Tree #belarus #general

Is there a preferred standard in naming a village (shtetl) in one’s family tree, when the political boundaries of the shtetl have changed?   For example, my grandmother, Sarah Boldo, was born around 1900 in Lybucha, Grodno gubernia, Belarus, which is now Lyubcha, Minsk gubernia, Belarus.   Basically the county the village was in changed borders, from Grodno to Minsk.   I believe if I go back far enough, the village was earlier in Poland.  

 

So my question is whether to enter the village name for her birth in 1900 with today’s political boundaries (i.e. Minsk gubernia) or the political boundaries from when she was born in 1900 (i.e. Grodno gubernia)?

 

Also, in order to see a history of the village, to determine what the political boundaries were at any time in history, is there a book or online resource I could find  this information---perhaps a gazetteer?

Regarding my grandmother, she was born around 1901 with name Sarah BOLDO but the surname changed to GOLDBERG  in the USA.   Which surname should I use in my family tree program on Ancestry?  Similarly, my grandfather was born with first name KALMEN but it changed to CARL in the USA.  Which name should I use for him?

I'm looking for similar information. My family got out of Berlin sometime around 1933/34 and made their way to Rio de Janeiro via Cuba. I haven't been able to find them on any manifests and would be super grateful to anyone who can point me in the direction of where those passenger lists may reside. I have subscriptions to most of the genealogy websites out there.  Thanks so much!

Searching for Teodor BRAUDE born 1909 in Torun, Prussia #poland #warsaw #russia

I am looking for information on Teodor BRAUDE. Born 1909 in Torun, Prussia. Mother was Terese Mozeson, Father was Bernhard BRAUDE. Parents married in Warsaw in 1909. Teodor may have been known by the first name of Terry or Teddy. Growing up, he lived in Warsaw with Alexander and Sonia Lorski. He attended Warsaw University around the late 1920's to early 1930's. He was interested in the theater and cinema, He would have been 30 years old in 1939. It is not known if he was married, what work he did, or where he lived in the mid-to-late 1930's. After the Invasion of Poland in 1939, he was reported to have been in Russian-occupied Poland, "acting and directing" in 1940. No further sightings after that. Could he have fled into Russia during the war? Fought in the Russian Army? Survived the War? Did he have children who might still be living? Any assistance would be appreciated.        Thank You,

I grew up hearing that my maternal grandfather was a gaucho on the Argentine pampas. Though my grandmother's brother did go from Bessarabia to near Mendoza, my grandfather ultimately operated a furniture store in Montevideo, Uruguay!  Look at nearby cities and ports of entry in your search.

You should also read what is written on the back of the Brazil immigration card of Mauritz (Mauricio) Popower, there is also a second card where the information on the back continues.
The same for the Brazil immigration cards fo Elza Chmielnik, née Popower, and Lajb Chmielnik, he has three immigration cards, where the information on the back continues.

If they immigrated to the United States before 1957 and if they arrived in New York, you could find their passenger manifest online on familysearch and ancestry.

I think that the best church to try first would be St. Mary's Whitechapel and then maybe St. Botolph's Aldgate.  Both within the area where Leah was probably living.

Thank you for your note, having to do with my DORF ancestors. I have a picture of Aaron's gravestone which confirms his father was Benjamin. My grandfather's (Harry) headstone says his father was Aaron. I believe this was a mistake on the part of my Uncles and Aunts who ordered the headstone.  Aaron was definitely Harry's brother. Older by 16 years.
I have both my  grandfather's intention to be naturalized, and his Naturalization papers. I know the port, date and ship that my grandfather arrived on. It was the SS Zeeland, New York, October 7, 1907. (My father told me that he and my grandfather used to joke that they arrived the same week. My father being born in New York city on October 4, 1907). I actually have a copy of the report of the ship's landing from the NY Times, the following day. I also have the Passenger listing, showing my grandfathers name. It shows he arrived from Czernowitz, leaving my pregnant grandmother,and my two eldest uncles. The passenger ship listing shows the last residence as Czernowitz, but not a date or place of birth.
Aaron was married to a Gital Zwick. They had seven daughters, the first one born 1885, the last one, 1901. I doubt they were married in 1901.
It very  well may be that my grandfather was born in Zaleszczyki, but of course I would like to have proof.

"Lengnau" apparently is the place of very early Jewish refuge in Switzerland.  I mistakenly assumed that a Frey family would not be Jewish.  Wikipedia lists it as an Ashkenazi surname.  But this Frey family line apparently became Protestant, in Alsace or Switzerland, sometime before migration with the "Pennsylvania Dutch".  There may be a significant number of people with some Jewish genetic background in that migration.  This line has "cousins" of my mother.  My paternal line DNA nearly matches still another family in that community. I am trying to find a link between my great uncle (by marriage) Pavel Israelovic Rattner (later Pavel Isidorovic Rattner )who was born in Belarus in 1859.  His wife was Ita lulia Ratner nee Rosenstein whose mother was Chasie Katherina Rosenstein nee Ratner. born in Constantinople.  Pave; was a famous Jewish engineer who put the electricity through St Petersburg  and was given the title of his Excellency.  His family were very famous in St Petersburg .  I believe they left Russia in 1917. I would like to find out what happened to them after they left Russia.  They had 2 daughters neither of whom had children and the daughters had a connection to Berlin?
Any information very welcome.

My grandfather immigrated to U.S. in 1907.   His name on the ship manifest was Itzik Harol, later Americanized to Isadore Harold. His parents who never immigrated were David and Ida. Itzik was from Kalarash. 

I am looking for European records about David and Ida and earlier generations if possible.  My preliminary searches do not find any Harol entries but do find the names:
