Thank you Jeff.  I am researching my ancestor Melech Blones who was also a member of the Ghetto resistance fighting group and died in the Mila 18 bunker.  Please share this document when it is translated.

Re: Silverman Family of Providence #usa

Davidmbrodsky1016@...

I am also originally from Providence, Rhode Island, and my paternal great grandmother Hinda was a Silverman (or Zilberman). She immigrated from Letychiv (Ladyzhin), Russia, now Ukraine, to Providence in approximately 1905, her husband having emigrated there earlier. When she arrived, she discovered that her husband, possibly Yehuda or Abraham, had married again. I’m looking for any information about any of these persons. Thanks. David M. Prysewiczuvna girls school in Lodz #lodz

Alan Glixman

Dear group

Two people I am researching supposedly went to a girls school in the 1930s in Lodz which I believe was called "Prysewiczuvna" (although I couldn't find it on Google so the spelling may be or was slightly different - apologies).

Their names are Krysia (Krystyna) MONTAG and Janka (Janina) MONTAG. I believe that they were both born around 1921. They were cousins.

I am hoping that records survive from this school which might help me in my research.

Does anyone know of this school or where I might look to find records from there?

With thanks

The Bellems #unitedkingdom

aaran1286@...

Dear friends,

We hope you are all keeping well.

We were wondering if anyone might know of anything in relation to the Bellem family, who originally resided in Plymouth and Dartmouth in England. Their name is also sometimes spelt "Bellam".
There is a certain Bellam that is a mystery to us, at the moment. His name is Isaac Bellam, and he appears as a subscriber to the  Seder Ha-Tefillah Translated by A. Alexander and B. Meyers, published in London in 1770, by W. Tooke. We do not know where he fits into our tree at the moment, but are fairly confident he is related to us because of his surname.

If anyone has any Bellem ancestors, or thinks they might be able to help, we would be very grateful if you could let us know.

Wishing you all the best,
Yoav Aran and Andrew Kopkin

Genners,

It is a Ktuba (Marriage contract) and it is indeed in Aramaic.  I could only make out the name of the groom – Yosef Haim son of Aliyahu.  Shalom, Malka Chosnek

You mentioned registration. Is it a correct assumption that if we are already a paid participant for the IAJGS conference that we can attend without further registration?

Re: surname Lobel clarification re literacy #general #romania

Meryl Menon

This message is just to say that my great-grandfather, Myer Lobel, was from Romania- perhaps from Roman. I have been seeking more information without success. He went to Montreal. I think his wife's maiden name was Michaelevitz.  My grandmother, Molly, was born in Romania. Do you want to share information to see if we are connected or is Lobel too common a name to proceed in that direction? Luc Radu, do you have any more information? Thanks.

Re: Aramaic Translation Help! #translation

Kalman Appel

The text is indeed Aramaic.  The document is a traditional ketubah or marriage contract between a Jewish husband and wife.  Google “ketubah text translation” and look for a traditional translation, which will give you the printed parts of the document text.

Alva,

The Jewish Genealogical Society, Inc. (New York) has a Burial Society Database Project that could be a good resource:  https://jgsny.org/searchable-databases/burial-society-databases

The Burial Society FAQ page has links for more information about burial societies that no longer exist.
