I need help. I created an on-line family tree with Family Tree Maker in 2005. I believe the app was owned by Genealogy.com. I subsequently lost the password and forgot about the tree, as I have used Ancestry for many years. I later learned the tree is still posted and easily found with google. I tried toe contact family tree maker but it had changed hands and said they couldn’t help.

The problem is that I was unsophisticated at the time. The tree has many errors and does adequately protect confidentiality.

I obviously bear personal responsibility for creating this problem. PLEASE HELP you can. I feel terrible about this.

Dear Researchers,

Have you ever wondered, as I have, about Jewish identity during the thousands of years between the times of Adam and Abraham, or about which specific pre-Hebraic ancient cultures went into the formation of the Jewish identity? Is it possible to learn anything meaningful about Jewish identity in these periods using modern dna results? Due to modern advances in archaeogenetics and computational biology the answer is: yes.

This is an invitation to learn more, and to sample at a very low cost the wonders of a genographic study for the understanding of your own family’s deep history. What follows here is an introduction, a more detailed summary of the method can be obtained below. This method is open to persons of any gender who have obtained, or plan to obtain an autosomal dna test from any company allowing a raw data download (all the majors do). Autosomal tests are the types of tests generally used by the major testing companies for full genome matching across the entire database (for example FamilyFinder, AncestryDNA, or MyHeritageDNA). No new testing is required.

I’ve developed and tested a scientific method for the study of an individual’s entire genome across historical eras, regions, and cultures which works by comparing a person’s autosomal dna to that of over 2,500 continuously updated dna samples drawn from the remains of culturally-identified ancient and archaic humans. After evaluating the degree of any person's matching with each of these remains, I am able to map the physical and cultural journey of any individual genome across a vast expanse of time and geography.

Genography fulfills the true promise of genetic genealogy in a way that traditional admixture, ethnicity, and ancient origin reports cannot: by providing a scientifically accurate, visual picture of a family’s cultural, ethnic, and geographical identity across 15 individual eras ranging from 50,000 BCE to 1650 CE-- scientific literature citations are also provided, for those who wish to explore the full anthropological import of the findings. With each study I am also gathering anonymous material about ancient, pre-Hebraic Jewish history which I hope to wrap eventually into a paper for the benefit of the entire research community. All persons who receive a full study will be credited (only upon their consent) as contributors to the paper.

Even a person who does not know anything about both biological parents (including donee-children, adoptees, and orphans) may use this method to study their deep and complete ancestry (individual study). Those who have broader genetic results available may further apply the method to examine their individual maternal and paternal branches. For example, applying the method to both parents (branched study) or to one parent and one offspring (quasi-branched study) will provide a subtle understanding of how one’s individual paternal and maternal origins have varied across the ages.

An initial foray into the field can be done for as little as US$22 and takes about three days. A complete, ready-to-publish study is US$600 and takes two-three weeks. Studies of intermediate scope are also doable.

Having taught myself to read the old German script, I am still occasionally stymied, so the more help, the better.

Can you provide some guidance as to where to find this guide on Family Search, as I am not having any success.  Do you have a direct link?  Thanks!

FTM by itself does not do Descendant Fan Charts - hence the need for Charting Companion
10 or more generations supported, but it will require some messing with page size and font size
Hebrew is one of the supported languages in Charting Companion
Charting Companion is not free

According to Cindy's List website, https://www.dorotree.com/ is the only genealogy software that prints in Hebrew.  (I have no experience with this program myself.)

For fan charts, Family Tree Maker by itself, no. You would need the Charting Companion software add-on from Progeny. I haven't tried Hebrew but it doesn't hurt to ask them.

The Eastern European surname DWORKIS was unique to a small area of the former Pale of Settlement.  (The variant DWORKIN was more common in other regions of the Pale.)  Several American DWORKIS families today can trace their origins to the Vinnitsya region of present-day Ukraine.  Are these families related?  Do they all share a common male ancestor?

We explore these relationships by doing a special DNA test (a Y-DNA test) that follows the paternal line and can identify close family members on that line even if the names don't match.

 

All researchers with DWORKIS, DWORKUS or DVORKIS surnames in their ancestry are encouraged to join the project and identify a patrilineal male descendant who still carries the name to test their Y-DNA and become part of the project.  Another wing of Vinnitsya DWORKIS’s immigrated to Pennsylvania and changed the family name to DAVIS – their descendants are encouraged to join the project as well.

I am looking for civil status documents or information about the siblings of GIERSZONOWICZ or GERSZONOWICZ Boruch (born around 1832 in Piotrkow), son of GIERSZONOWICZ or GERSZONOWICZ Abram (born around 1797) and Rywka (born around 1807). Then on the siblings of GERSZONOWICZ Jankiel (born in 1889 in Osjakow), son of GERSZONOWICZ Moszek Gerszon (born around 1860 in Piotrkow) and MOSZCOWICZ Drezla (born in 1856 in Zdunska Wola). It seems that Moszek Gerszon had a second wife COLO Sura (born in 1873 in Tuszyn). To be confirmed... They would have had together 4 children all born in Lodz from 1907 to 1914.

You can put it on ViewMate, use one of the Translation groups, or you can do it yourself. FamilySearch.org has all sorts of genealogical guides, including old German Script. I found one in a Norwegian guide, but it may be easier now when you can search online.
